About Communication

Communication studies is an academic discipline that deals with processes of human communication. There are three types of communication: written, in which a message is read; verbal, involving listening to a person to understand the meaning of a message; and nonverbal communication involving observing a person and inferring meaning. The discipline comprises a range of topics from face-to-face conversation to mass media outlets, such as television broadcasting.

International students who want to attend communication schools are usually skilled writers or speakers. Every communication career will require the employee to be an exceptional communicator, tactful informer, ability to persuade, and to qualify effectively. Most students who want to go into communication generally have experience in writing for high school newspapers, developing a campaign, creating brochures, broadcasting on school television news or radio stations, and other communication related practice. Many have enjoyed the power of speaking rhetorically and can understand how to communicate with various kinds of audiences. If one loves the art of communication, informing others or challenging viewpoints, whether it is with speaking or writing, a degree in communication may be right for the person.

Communication studies is associated with cultural studies by an interest in how messages are interpreted through the cultural, political, economic, hermeneutic, semiotic, and social dimensions of their contexts such as in in Quantitative communication studies examine statistics in order to help substantiate claims, whereas in political economics, communication studies examine how the politics of ownership affects content. Communication and media science has developed as the field of study concerning with tailoring the way we communicate to different applications with its various branches which include Journalism, electronic media, and TV & radio broadcasting, Intercultural and multi-linguistic communications, Politics and public administration, Performing arts, speech and rhetoric, Business administration, industrial relations and corporate communications, Marketing, advertising and public relations. Communication careers generally require skills that are primarily developed out of a passion for the field.
