About Forensic Science

Forensic science is an academic discipline in which professional forensic scientists examine the physical crime evidence. Forensic science is the implementation of science to civil and criminal laws during the criminal investigation. It is administered by criminal procedure and admissible evidence. The evidence is then sent to court to aid in finding out the guilty. Forensic scientists utilize mathematical as well scientific techniques to examine the evidence. Forensic means a debate or public discussion but in today’s context, forensic means the judicial system or the court. When the term forensic is succeeded by the term science, it means the application of scientific processes and techniques to resolve a crime. The first forensic science school was established in 1909. The fast growth in the discipline has revealed many mysteries which were not solved for many decades. The rapid development of scientific technology has helped in uncovering many criminal mysteries too. Forensic science is highly evolved and needs professionals with many skills at the same time.  Archimedes is known as the world’s first forensic scientist. Forensic science is made up of two Latin words forensics and science. The word forensic is associated with investigation performed in public.

The latter word science relates to the proper manner of gaining knowledge. Forensic Science can be defined as the application of scientific processes in solving mysteries and crimes.

Forensic scientists gather, preserve and inspect physical evidence to ensure justice. Some forensic professionals visit the crime scene by themselves in order to collect the proofs while others work in laboratories where individuals bring them the shreds of evidence.

The ancient world didn’t use to have proper forensic methodologies because of which criminals escaped punishment. Criminal investigations have been dependent witness testimony and forced confessions.

Forensic scientists are responsible to testify as an expert witness in both civil and criminal cases and they can choose to work for either the defense or the prosecution. Forensic scientists are required to possess the necessary aptitude for reasoning. Forensic science influences the justice system in a bigger way because of the pieces of evidence it provides after the examination of objects and materials found at the crime scene.
