Skimming and Scanning
Give the whole passage a rough reading to get an idea of the content. Get to know what the passage is about and scan the passage for the phrases and keywords.
Keywords are really important so do take a note of them. Make notes of the words which are repeated so that you get a better understanding of the whole concept and what you are required to summarize or elaborate on.
Go Through the Passage/Prompt Twice
Read the entire passage at least twice to be thorough with the content of the passage. It so happens that the passage is really confusing and going through it once might not help you with the writing. Therefore, divide your work.
Give a rough reading initially and the second time understands more thoroughly while reading. Use clues to understand the unknown words but do not waste much time on such words. If there are multiple paragraphs, the first paragraph can be an introduction and last is the conclusion. Pay attention to these paragraphs as these give more idea of the passage as compared to the body written.
Plan it Out in a Creative Way
Don’t just start to begin writing and get the ball rolling, instead try to make a proper structure first and introduce the ideas that come to your mind. Also, try not to repeat the points in every sentence.
Introduce a new idea in each paragraph. Surely you can keep just 2-3 paragraphs but it should be such that it attracts a perfect score. Planning out your answers in this way will help you present your answer with clarity and also save you from having to stop and restart.
Use a Structured Format
As mentioned above, it is advised to divide the essay into a certain number of paragraphs. The first paragraph should be the Introduction, the second one should be having arguments for, which means in favor of the side you choose based on the topic.
The third paragraph having arguments against and the last one will be the conclusion. This way your ideas will be presented in a more clear way yielding perfect arks. Keep in mind the word limit given and try to incorporate the keywords. Keep in mind, a structured answer is always desirable!
Experiment with Vocabulary
It is really important to know the vocabulary that the PTE is looking for. You can improve your vocabulary by reading. Read newspaper articles, read novels, read autobiographies, read whatever you find interesting.
This will help you greatly while writing the answers because remember, average words are detected and it will lead to average scores. Therefore, experiment efficiently with your vocabulary to stand out.
Effective Time Management
It’s very important to manage time to be able to complete writing on time without missing on any points. You have roughly 10 minutes to summarize the written text and 20 minutes for writing the essay. Therefore, allocate your time to each section in such a way that you end up writing an effective answer. It is not a wise decision to immediately start writing as soon as you get the question.
It might seem like the more beneficial option but it might happen that you end up getting confused or writing a wrong answer. Therefore, you are advised to do a thorough reading and proper planning before writing, simultaneously keeping an eye on the time.
Proofreading is Mandatory
Proofreading is extremely essential. You might think that you have written the best answer ever but always remember, there are always mistakes left unnoticed in the agony of writing. therefore it is strongly recommended that you keep the last 5-10 minutes for reviewing your writing.
Read your piece of writing and check for any spelling errors and sentence formation mistakes. Also, you can come up with something better while re-reading.
Maintain Simplicity
Always remember, your grammar has to be more correct than any other thing. Putting forth a complex sentence might lead you to make grammar and punctuation mistakes. Therefore, in essays precisely, try to make sentences that are clear and logical; short and simple.
Work on your Weaknesses
Improve your writing with understanding your own strengths and weaknesses. This can only be possible when you do regular practice. A candidate who sincerely dedicates time for practice knows his area of weakness more works on it and thus emerges with good scores. Thus, concentrate on the areas you need to improve and make sure to do regular practice.
Besides this, strategize your time and preparation efficiently. There is no good in finishing the test early. Take your time give your best, revise and re-revise.
