Since the entire story of Donald Trump, the student population opting for higher education in the USA has decreased tremendously. Having said that, students are greatly interested in applying to Universities in Canada.

Though few students are able to sponsor there stay and admission in foreign countries, majority of applying students go for educational loans or scholarships. Though it is not that easy to apply for scholarships and to get one. Canadian universities offer a wide range of scholarships to meritorious and deserving students to help them fund their studies.Before applying to any of the scholarships, it is very important to check the eligibility criteria,
deadlines and much more.

  • Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships:

It was created to attract world-class doctoral students and to establish Canada as a global center of excellence in research and higher learning. The scholarships are awarded for a doctoral degree or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD.
Level of study required:
PhD programs or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD in health research, social sciences and/or humanities research, natural sciences and/or engineering research.
Number of Scholarships:
The university awards up to 167 scholarships are awarded annually.
Amount / duration:
The scholarship is worth up to $50,000 per year for three years.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for a Vanier CGS, you must:
 be nominated by one Canadian institution only, which must have received a Vanier CGS quota.
 Be pursuing your first doctoral degree taking into account including joint
undergraduate/graduate research program such as: DVM/PhD, JD/PhD,
MD/PhD–Note that only the PhD portion of any combined degree is eligible for funding.
 intend to pursue, in the academic year following the announcement of results, a joint graduate program such as: research or full-time doctoral or MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD studies at the nominating institution. Note that only the PhD portion of any combined degree is eligible for funding.
 have completed utmost twenty months of doctoral studies as of May 1, 2019.
 have achieved a first-class average, as determined by your institution, in each of the last 2 years full-time study or equivalent.
 to undertake or complete a doctoral degree, one must not have completed, or have undertaken, a doctoral-level scholarship or fellowship under CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC.

Application instructions:
 Candidates must be chosen by a Canadian Institution with a quota at which they want to study. Students cannot apply directly to the Vanier CGS.  

 Applications are initiated in either of two ways. Either the student contacts the faculty of graduate studies at the institution they intent to apply to the Vanier CGS OR the institution initiates the nomination process by contacting the candidate.   • Ontario Graduate Scholarship

The OGS program is backed by the provincial government to encourage brilliance in graduate studies at master’s and doctoral levels. Government contributes two-thirds of the value of the awards and the university delivers the remaining one-third.
Amount / duration:
The scholarship is worth CAD 15,000 i.e. INR Rs 7,77,900. Scholarship amount can be utilized for Tuition and Fees

Student Awarded:
Number of students to be awarded are 5 annually.
Eligibility
 Be registered at full-time graduate degree program; exceptions are those students who only register part-time as permanent disabilities may still be eligible.
 Have achieved a first-class with minimum average of 80%.
 Applicant must indicate relevant volunteer, leadership and academic work experience.
 2 LORs along with transcripts are required.

  • Trudeau Foundation Scholarships

Course Level:
Scholarships are available for students pursuing PhD program.
Subject(s): Humanities and social sciences, specifically one or more of the following areas:
 Canada in the World
 People and their Natural Environment

 Human Rights and Dignity
 Responsible Citizenship
Scholarship Award: The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarship provides award of:
 $40,000 per year for 3 years
 $20,000 per year for 3 years, as research and travel allowance.
 Opportunity for a fourth year student: writing or dissemination scholarship.
Eligibility:
 Full-time first or second-year candidates enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) in a doctoral program in the humanities and social sciences.
 Up to one student in four per given year may be a foreign national enrolled full – time in a doctoral program at a particular Canadian institution. This applies in particular to candidates from emerging nations.
How to Apply: 
 Candidates must be recommended by a Canadian or any foreign university.
 Applications sent directly by any student will be automatically declined by the Foundation.

  • Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program

Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship Program is rewarded every year which is aimed to recognize artistic students who have extraordinary academic achievement and leadership qualities.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be an international secondary school student who is nominated by their school with a study permit looking to commence studies in the following academic year.


Educational institution: Awarded by University of Toronto
Awards: The scholarship awards for tuition, books, incidental fees, and full residence support for upto four years.
Application Deadline: August to November (Tentatively)

  • President’s Scholarship for World Leaders

The scholarship is provided to international students who are joining any course at The University of Winnipeg for the first time. President’s Scholarship for World Leaders is open to all those students who are involved in activities that demonstrate leadership.
Educational institution: Awarded by The University of Winnipeg.
Award: The scholarship is worth up to CAD 5,000.
Application Deadline: July to October (Tentatively)

  • International Leader of Tomorrow Award

International Leader of Tomorrow Award is open for all those international
undergraduate students who have brilliant academic record, leadership skills, and regular participation in student affairs and community service.
Educational institution: It is awarded by The University of British Columbia.
Award: The value of the award is relative to the student’s financial needs decided by taking into account the tuition, fees, and living costs, and subtracting the financial contribution by the student and the family.
Application Deadline: September to December (Tentatively)

  • University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF)

The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) is open to all students irrespective of their citizenship.

Eligibility:
 All students regardless of their citizenship.
 The students in all fields of graduate studies are eligible to apply, given their program is eligible for tri-council funding.
Amount: The scholarship is worth CAD 18,000 for Ph.D. & CAD 14,000 for Master’s for a period of one year.
Educational institution: The scholarship is awarded by University of Manitoba.
Application Deadline: The applications tentatively start form the month of January every year.

Assist-on Scholarship
The scholarship is open for all the international students, the Assist-on Scholarship is
awarded to one international student based on his/her academic excellence and
community service record.

  • The Seneca Renewable Entrance Scholarship of Merit for International Students

Seneca College offers almost 10 renewable merit scholarships to international students to be accepted to study Diploma or Graduate Certificate program at the university.
Eligibility: The scholarship is open to all those international students who have achieved a minimum GPA of 80% in Grade 12 or equivalent.
Educational institution: The scholarship is awarded by Seneca College.
Amount: The scholarship is worth of CAD 1000.
Application Deadline: The applications tentatively start from July to October.

Eligibility:
The applicant must be admitted in a Degree/Diploma/Certificate program at the college.
Educational institution: 
The scholarship is awarded by George Brown College

Amount:
The scholarship is worth CAD 1,000.
