Polytechnic is a diploma course which deals with technical skills in various streams. Students can apply for a junior engineer job after the completion of this course. Students learn practical skills in disciplines like IT, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile, electrical engineering, and others.

Polytechnic is a job-oriented program. This is designed to make students employable for jobs where practical skills are required. It is the equivalent of the 12th.

Polytechnic is a 3-year course which students can do after class 10th. One of the advantages of this course is that after the completion, students can direct admission in the second year of B. Tech. The fees of the course are much less compared to regular 12th schooling.

Students can get hired immediately after completing the course in various PSUs, government and private organizations. The initial salary can be approximately 10,000 INR.

Career options after Diploma –

  • Loco pilot
  • Junior Engineer
  • Technical Assistant
  • Government sectors like Indian railway, BHEL, Airport Authority of India, Power grid, Electricity department, etc.
  • Private Companies like HCL, Infosys, Tata motors, etc.

Polytechnic Admission

The top-ranked Polytechnic Institutes in India consider the scores of an examination called the Common Entrance Test (CET) held at state levels. The Department of Training & Technical Education of the respective states conducts the CET.

A few Polytechnic Institutes also give direct admission without the Common Entrance Test.

Important Note:
Note: For a degree to be considered valid, the college granting the degree must be approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education).

The students who are seeking admission in the 2nd year of Polytechnic via Lateral entry can get admission under the Direct Polytechnic Admission method. Applicant must have completed his/her class 12th with science stream (P.C.M.) or ITI (Industrial Training Institute).
