Elementary Education

Education is the utmost need for development of society. Education is a basic of every citizen. It all starts from the basic level known as elementary education. Elementary education is also commonly known as primary education. It forms the base for the development and welfare of the society. Elementary education is the foundation course which is essential for every individual. It is succeeded by secondary education and preceded by nursery education. Elementary education is focused upon by both Central and State governments to achieve the goal of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE). Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 elementary education is a free right for the children who falls under the age category of six to fourteen years. 

Important Aspects of Elementary Education

The aspects affecting the classification of elementary education are the student’s population, teacher’s qualification and experience, teaching methods, study materials and other basic facilities. The management of the school is also particularly responsible for the smooth functioning of the school. The basic aspect of elementary education starts with a classroom. 

Classrooms are considered to be the one of the important aspects for learning. It is necessary for the students to feel comfortable inside the classroom to learn things easily. Classrooms should be equipped with all the modern facilities, sitting arrangements and heating or cooling equipment based on the weather condition of the area. The classroom should look attractive and appealing to maintain the interest of the students.

The teaching and learning process is another important aspect of elementary education.  The level of academics in elementary education is not so tough. Parents often help their children in completion of homework, making projects or in the preparation of exams which makes the learning process easier for students. With the guidance from parents and teachers, the teaching and learning process gets simpler and easier for children.

The next important aspect of elementary education is performance. Though the teaching and learning process is well coordinated still it becomes vital to evaluate students based on their performance. Performance helps to determine a student’s stand within the classroom. It helps to identify the weaknesses of a child and improve their weaknesses by taking proper measures. Performance is evaluated with the help of tests, projects and assignments. 

Physical environment conditions also plays an important role in elementary education. The classroom size, number of students and teachers and the surroundings impacts a lot on the student’s life. In elementary education, it is necessary for children to develop in both physical and mental aspect. Proper infrastructure is required to do so. Students in elementary school should have access to outdoor games within the school premises which will help in their physical development. 

Teachers should be well trained and experienced in the field of handling students to coordinate properly. In elementary education, students need to be taught in a very simple way so that everyone is able to understand that. Teachers need to be possess efficient knowledge related to the learning materials. The nature of a teacher in elementary education should be kind and caring towards students. Teacher’s attitude plays a very important role in shaping the children’s life. Children in elementary school are very vulnerable to the environment, hence it is a teacher’s duty to make them feel comfortable.

The role of extra-curricular activities is also very vital for the development of a child. The different kinds of extra-curricular activities involves handicrafts, artworks, sports, physical exercises, taekwondo, yoga, meditation, singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, etc. Students of this age are enthusiastic about participation in extra-curricular activities. This also works as a motivation for children in learning. 

Conclusion
Elementary education plays a vital role in every individual’s life. It helps a child to develop physically and mentally. There are few aspects which determines the importance of elementary education. The level of elementary education can be determined with the infrastructure of the school, experience and attitude of teachers and the physical environment. The extra-curricular activities plays a vital role in the growth of a child.
