What Is IGDTUW and Why Does It Matter?
Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women is a state university at Kashmere Gate, Delhi, set up by the Government of NCT of Delhi under Delhi Act 9 of 2012 and running as a university since May 2013. It is a women-only technical university accredited NAAC A plus.
IGDTUW was upgraded from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology. It is a non-affiliating teaching and research university, which means it teaches on its own campus and does not affiliate other colleges. Its focus areas are engineering, technology, applied sciences, architecture and management, and its stated aim is to promote studies, research, innovation, incubation and extension work among women.

Admission to B.Tech, the six-year dual degree and B.Arch is through the Joint Admission Committee Delhi counselling on a JEE Main 2026 score. Candidates register on the JAC Delhi portal, pay a registration-cum-counselling fee of INR 1,500, fill choices, and pay a seat acceptance fee of INR 95,000 after allotment.

For 2026-27 the seat matrix published by JAC Delhi lists 1,323 seats at IGDTUW across B.Tech, the dual degree and B.Arch. Eighty-five percent of seats are reserved for Delhi Region candidates and fifteen percent for Outside Delhi Region candidates. IGDTUW also admits international students, Persons of Indian Origin and NRIs through the Direct Admission of Students Abroad scheme, and reserves two seats under the sports category. Lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech is offered separately to diploma holders.

Alongside the annual academic fee, students pay a one-time refundable security fee of INR 5,000 and a one-time non-refundable alumni fee of INR 2,000. Of the first-year amount, INR 95,000 is collected by JAC Delhi as the seat acceptance fee and the balance of INR 80,000 for B.Tech (INR 97,500 for B.Arch) is paid at the university. Hostel and mess charges are billed separately.
Postgraduate fees are lower. The IGDTUW admission brochure for 2025-26 lists an annual total of INR 1,15,000 for M.Tech, INR 1,14,000 for M.Plan and INR 33,000 for PhD, each inclusive of tuition, student welfare, examination and facility components. Scholarships include a full tuition fee waiver for the first-rank holder in each B.Tech department and around fifty Shraman Foundation awards of INR 50,000 per year.

The Kashmere Gate campus has an automated library, an auditorium, a multipurpose hall, a computer centre, a Wi-Fi enabled campus and sports facilities. Two women's hostels, Krishna and Kaveri, accommodate roughly four hundred students. Clubs, societies and annual festivals give students a full extracurricular calendar alongside laboratories and research centres.
The hostels sit inside the university campus. Rooms come with bunk beds, bedding, fans, chairs, cupboards and foldable study tables, and residents get purified drinking water, an air-conditioned mess dining hall, housekeeping, Wi-Fi, washing machines and hot water. Badminton courts are on the hostel premises, and residents also use the campus playground for basketball, badminton and volleyball. Hostel and mess charges are paid separately from the academic fee.
Laboratories are equipped with advanced hardware and licensed software including MATLAB, PTC Creo, CATIA, FluidSim and NetSim, and the university has an NVIDIA DGX A100 supercomputing server with eight A100 GPUs. Centres of Excellence cover advanced mechatronics, heritage, and the science of happiness, while the NIDHI Technology Business Incubator supports student start-ups.
