In 1992, Liverpool Polytechnic became Liverpool John Moores University. It has got its name from one of the great philanthropists and entrepreneurs of Liverpool, Sir John Moores.  The university believes that knowledge is power. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of Architecture, Chemistry, Computing, Astronomy, Art and Design, History, Law, Engineering, Psychology, among many others. The university offers full-time, part-time, and distance learning courses.

Sir John Moores (1896-1993) was a successful businessman and a true visionary. He founded Littlewoods in 1923, which was the UK’s most profitable and largest privately-owned firm back then. Littlewoods comprised of football pools, mail order, and retailing. He headed the firm until 1982. Sir John Moores Jr, who was Sir Johns’s eldest son, served as the University’s second Chancellor from 1994 to 1999, succeeding Henry Cotton. In 2015, Lady Grantchester, his eldest daughter, was accepted as an Honorary Fellow of the University.

The vision of the university is to be recognized as a modern civic university that delivers solutions to the problems and challenges of the 21st century. The undergraduate scholarships offered are as follows –

  1. The Vice-Chancellors Scholarship – the amount awarded each year for the duration of the course is 10,000 Euros, 5 scholarships are awarded.
  2. Sir Bert Massie Scholarship – the amount awarded each year for the duration of the course is 10,000 Euros, 1 scholarship is awarded.
  3. Community Excellence Scholarship – the amount awarded each year for the duration of the course is 1,000 Euros, a maximum of 100 scholarships are awarded. 
  4. Academic Excellence Scholarship – the amount awarded each year for the duration of the course is 1,000 Euros, a maximum of 100 scholarships are awarded. 

Liverpool John Moores University – How to apply? 

The application process is very straightforward. Students are required to complete and submit their application forms online. There is no need to physically submit the required documents and information. The university will get in touch with the students if they are selected. Students are advised to check and review their application forms before submitting the same. 

Key points –

  1. Applications for the full-time undergraduate programs can be done via the Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS). 
  2. Once the student submits their application form through UCAS, their forms will be sent to the respective universities. 
  3. If a student wishes to pursue a part-time undergraduate program, he must complete and submit an online application form available on the university’s website. 
  4. For students that wish to pursue the postgraduate programs would have to complete and submit an application form available on the university’s website.

The eligibility criteria are as follows –

  1. The acceptable English proficiency tests include IELTS, TOEFL IB, Pearson PTE, Cambridge CAE, among others.
  2. The English proficiency tests should be taken not more than 2years before the start date of the student’s chosen program.
  3. The overall IELTS score should be 6, with a score of 5.5 in each section.
  4. The overall TOEFL IB score should be 78. 
  5. The acceptable International School Qualifications include Botswana (BGCSE), Cameroon O Level, Hong Kong (HKDSE), India Standard XII English (CBSE and CICSE), among others.
  6. The student should get grade C in Botswana, grade B in Cameroon O Level. 
  7. The student should get 70% in India Standard XII English (CBSE and CICSE).

  1. Lucy found her lecturers super helpful. Everything was online, using the Canvas system. The campus provides various facilities to work and socialize. She loved life at the university and is sad to leave it. 
  2. Michelle pursued the Law LLB (Hons) program. The university organizes various networking events which help to enhance employability. The lectures and seminars were very good. Seminars allow students to focus on applying what they learnt in the lectures. 
  3. Tegen pursued the Zoology BSc (Hons) program. He had a good time in the university and made many new friends. The professors are very interactive. It’s easy to contact the lecturers either through Canvas or email, which is great. 
  4. Caoimhe pursued the Business with Marketing BSc (Hons). The employability support provided by the university is great. Seminars take place in smaller groups and are very engaging. The student union always tries to make the university a community, which is commendable.
  5. Touraj Bashir Herl pursued the MSc Investment and Finance program. The course included the current needs and trends of the market, it was always updated. The student’s union is very cooperative. The career counseling department is very good and helps students to become better professionals.
