“Quantum mechanics is a fundamental theory in physics that provides a description of the physical properties of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles. It is the foundation of all quantum physics including quantum chemistry, quantum field theory, quantum technology, and quantum information science.”

Three Revolutionary Principles of Quantum Mechanics:

Anyone scientist cannot be credited with these three principles, rather these principles are the result of the collective efforts of a lot of scientists. The three principles are:

  • Quantized properties
  • Particles of Light
  • Waves of matter

In just a few years, Quantum Mechanics has become a full-fledged course from being a subject offered along with other subjects to physics students.

Quantum Mechanics has traveled from “Is there any university for Quantum Mechanics?” to “What are some of the top Universities for Quantum Mechanics?”.

So here we present some of the top universities in the world which offer quality education in Quantum Mechanics.

List of Top Universities teaching Quantum Mechanics

1. The Institute for Quantum Computing — University of Waterloo

The Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) is a scientific research institute at the University of Waterloo. The research happening at this institute harnesses the quantum laws of nature in order to develop powerful new technologies and drive future economies.

2. University of Oxford

The University of Oxford has a long history with quantum mechanics. The university’s own David Deutsch first described – “exactly what a universal quantum computer is” way back in 1985. The university still positions itself among the top leaders in providing quality education in quantum mechanics.

According to the university, they’re in quantum research because of its vast potential and rich history in the same. “Quantum computing has the potential to transform areas of our lives such as healthcare, finance, and security – and Oxford is a pioneering theory, technology, and responsible innovation to ensure that its power will bring benefits for all of society.”

3. Harvard University — Harvard Quantum Initiative

Harvard claims that the Harvard Quantum Initiative in Science and Engineering (HQI) is “a community of researchers with a deep interest in advancing the science and engineering of quantum mechanics and its applications. Our mission is to help scientists and engineers explore new ways to transform quantum theory into useful systems and devices.”

So, if you are planning to take up Quantum Mechanics as your majors, you should definitely consider Harvard University because of its rich history of providing quality education be it in any discipline.

4. MIT — Center for Theoretical Physics

MIT, short for Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a research giant. It’s reach now extends deeply into quantum mechanics and quantum information. The university’s strength in theoretical physics is now leveraged into what they call it, quantum information and quantum computing, or QI/QC. Besides building a quantum computer, researchers at MIT explore Quantum algorithms and complexity, Quantum information theory, measurement and control and applications and connections. This institute for sure helps you achieve your endeavors in the field of Quantum Mechanics.

5. National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University — Centre for Quantum Technologies

The center was founded to bring together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum mechanics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena.
