What Are the SAT Exam Dates for 2026 and 2027?
College Board lists eight weekend SAT dates for the 2026-27 cycle: 22 August, 12 September, 3 October, 7 November and 5 December 2026, then 6 March, 1 May and 5 June 2027. Indian students take the same dates as everyone else, because the digital SAT runs on one global schedule.
Registration closes roughly two weeks before each test date, and a short late-registration window stays open for about four more days at an extra cost. Every deadline expires at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time, so students in India should register a day early rather than counting on local midnight.

Schools in India can also run in-school SAT administrations during the College Board testing windows: 1 to 30 October 2026 in the autumn and 1 March to 30 April 2027 in the spring. Those sittings are arranged by the school, not booked by the student.
When Are SAT Scores Released After Each Test Date?
Most scores from weekend SAT administrations are released two to four weeks after test day. For the autumn 2026 sittings, College Board has published these release dates: 4 September, 25 September, 16 October, 20 November and 18 December 2026. Scores appear in your College Board account before they reach universities.

Your report shows three numbers: a total score from 400 to 1600, plus a Reading and Writing section score and a Math section score, each from 200 to 800. Score reports are sent to universities separately, which adds further days, so leave a buffer before an application deadline.

Registration costs USD 68 and every student testing outside the United States pays an added international fee of USD 43, so the total in India is USD 111. Late registration adds USD 38, changing your test centre costs USD 34, and cancelling a registration also costs USD 34.

Your first four score reports are free if you order them within nine days of the test date, so pick your universities early instead of paying USD 15 per report later. A small number of test centres also charge an extra test centre fee of USD 24.
What Is the Format of the Digital SAT in 2026?
The SAT is digital and section-adaptive. Reading and Writing has 54 questions in two 32-minute modules, and Math has 44 questions in two 35-minute modules. Total testing time is 2 hours 14 minutes across 98 questions, with a 10-minute break between the two sections.

Adaptive means the second module in each section gets harder or easier depending on how you did in the first module. Most questions are multiple choice, while some Math questions ask you to type the answer yourself. Over two million students in the class of 2025 sat the SAT.

In India, College Board accepts a valid passport showing your name, photograph and signature, a US Department of War Common Access Card, or a valid Aadhaar PVC card carrying your name and photograph. Bring the original document, because printouts, photocopies, screenshots and e-cards are all refused at the centre.

One India-specific scheduling rule matters as well: Sunday testing is not available in India or Pakistan, so the alternate Sunday sittings offered in some countries are not an option here. Work backwards from the university deadline. Stanford wants scores by the end of October for Restrictive Early Action and the end of December for Regular Decision. Harvard closes Restrictive Early Action on 1 November and Regular Decision on 1 January, and asks early applicants for scores by end of October.
- Take a first attempt in August or October 2026 if you are applying for autumn 2027 entry.
- Keep the 7 November or 5 December 2026 date free as a retake, since scores land on 20 November and 18 December.
- Check each university deadline yourself, as early rounds usually close on 1 November and regular rounds on 1 January.
- Allow extra days for score reports to reach universities after the release date.
- Remember that Stanford accepts scores from within the past five years, so an early attempt is not wasted.
If you are applying for spring or later intakes, the March, May and June 2027 dates give you more room. Students in Class 11 often sit the SAT in the spring, then use an autumn date as a retake before the early-round deadlines the following November.
