The University of Derby was established in 1851. It is located in Derby, England. The University provides over 300 study programs at the undergraduate level. Undergraduate programs, as well as short courses, foundation degrees, and postgraduate degrees, cover most academic disciplines and subdisciplines. Currently, the University is home to around 34,000 students in all areas of study. Also, the main benefits of the University of Derby are advanced training programs, high average qualification of specialists, a wide range of departments.

Campus:

Derby Campus:

Derby Campus is the main campus which comprises of four sites:

  • Kedleston Road
  • Markeaton street
  • Britannia mill
  • One Friar Gate Square

Markeaton Street is relatively new and is the Art, Design & STEM campus. It has plenty of PCs, electronics labs, a motorsport garage, 3D workshop (woodcutting, metalwork, laser-cutting, etc.), and a 2D print bureau (UV printing, fabric printing, and others). The cost of the printers and 3D workshops is covered in your degree, and you need to provide the material or dig around in the recycling trays – every workshop has one.

Britannia Mill has manual art workshops, screen-printing, fabric dyeing, letterpress, collagraph (to name just a few), and like the above, you only need to provide materials. The Arts and Humanities library is located there.

Everything else is split to other campuses, mostly at Kedleston Road, or if you’re into fashion, Chandos Pole street. The library at Kedleston Road covers every topic Britannia Mill doesn’t.

Buxton campus

The Buxton Campus is the center for Professional Culinary Arts and Management. It has a well-equipped library, cafes, beauty salons and spa, a fine dining restaurant with seven commercial kitchens, and many more world-class services.

Chesterfield Campus

The Chesterfield campus is a center for health, social care, and nursing programs. It offers technologically advanced services for its students. The Campus has well-equipped teaching rooms, IT suites, a clinical skills suite, a six-bed mock ward, and a simulation suite.

Admission

The University offers plenty of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels from different disciplines. For admission to undergraduate courses, students may either apply through UCAS or common application system, or they may follow the University’s online application system.

Proof of proficiency in the English language is compulsory for international applicants seeking admission to the University of Derby. Students need to secure the minimum score as prescribed by the University. To apply for postgraduate courses, a student needs to hold an undergraduate degree from a recognized university and work experience if required.

The primary admission process and requirements are more or less similar for the majority of the programs.

Accommodation

The University will provide you secure, affordable accommodation in their excellent halls of residence. It also provides students with free arrival packs, bed packs, and kitchen packs when they move in the halls of residence.

In terms of renting privately, there are a lot of terraced houses in the area around Abbey Lodge rented by students. The streets around Britannia Mill (Markeaton Street and Mackworth Road) are very similar but are much closer to teaching sites. Friar Gate has options in terms of flats, mostly above restaurants.

The University of Derby is a world-class university that aims to provide quality education to its students. It is a great place if you are looking for research-based education. The teaching materials, professors, lecturers, and instructors are outstanding and provide an edge over other courses.
