<h3>History</h3>
NIC was founded in 1975. North Island College initially opted for a distance education model which includes the outreach operations as the city had a small and dispersed population so in order took the college to the people they introduced these operations. NIC soon earned a good reputation in open learning. In 1990, the process of constructing campuses to serve the areas began. The Comox Valley campus was founded in 1992 which was followed by Port Alberni’s campus in 1995 and the Campbell River campus in 1997.
In 2004, NIC offered its first bachelors degree in Nursing in partnership with VIU, which was soon followed by a program in Liberal Studies along with a Fine Arts degree, in partnership with ECU. In 2006, NIC was granted approval to offer its own course in the Bachelor of Business Administration.
<h3>Overview</h3>
North Island College is known for advancing student success, education and community growth through NIC for more than 25 years. The college is dedicated in supporting students through various sports courses, scholarships and bursaries, equipping classes with latest technology and ensuring the best possible learning services are accessible on the college campus. In 2017, more than $290,000 in scholarships and bursaries were offered to students.
North Island College offers more than 900 courses and 70 programs.  It serves in a region of 80,000 square kilometers; the college has four campuses smaller centre in Ucluelet. Individuals can access a broad range of learning opportunities which includes college preparatory, academic/university transferor Certificates, Diplomas along with Degrees, Post Degree Diplomas, vocational and trades training programs. The college various streams in which one can opt-  Business, Health Care, Tourism &amp; Hospitality, Fine Arts &amp; Design, Interactive Media, Trades &amp; Technology and university partnerships/transfer, many with other choices.
