<p>The University of Dundee is a public research university located in Dundee, Scotland. It is home to the first UNESCO centre in the UK.</p>

<p>The growing population of Dundee in the 19th century significantly increased demand for the establishment of an institution of higher education in the city. The University College, Dundee was founded in 1881. Later this college was incorporated into the University of St Andrews in 1897. The publication of the Robbins Report on Higher Education in 1963, which considered the question of university education expansion throughout the country, provided impetus to the movement to attain independent university status for Dundee. Finally, the University of Dundee came into independent existence on  August 1, 1967.</p>
