M.B.B.S. or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is composed of 2 Words, M.B. - 'Medicinae Baccalaureus' (Bachelor of Medicine in Latin) and B.S. - 'Bachelor of Surgery' (in English). In spite of the fact that the name proposes 2 isolate degrees, it is just 1 degree. This is the convention of United Kingdom and different nations are following this custom. While in the US, both of the degrees are awarded separately as the M.D (Doctor of Medicine) and D.O (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine).It is an Undergraduate Academic Degree Course managing Medicine and Surgery. To become a Doctor in Allopathic Medicine M.B.B.S. is a must. UK
A student to be eligible for admission should obtain AAA grades with either chemistry or biology, a minimum IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7.0 with scores not less than 6.5 in all four categories of listening, speaking, reading and writing. An aspirant should further clear the UK Clinical Aptitude test (UKCAT)/Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) covering the areas of verbal, quantitative and abstract reasoning along with decision analysis and situational judgement.
The course ranges from four to six years. On completion of two years of study, the students are required to experience a foundation training for two years. A speciality training has to be undertaken after completion of four years of study in the area one wishes to specialise, which could last up to seven years.
Australia
A quality oriented course in medical field has been developed by the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Minimum IELTS requirement is 7. The students are further required to qualify the Undergraduate Medicine and health Admission Test (UMAT) organised by the AQF. International applicants may also apply with Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admissions Test (GAMSAT) or Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) scores. The minimum GAMSAT score should be at least 50 in each section, and a score of at least 50 overall.
Usually the course takes four to six years to complete followed by one year of internship and one year of residency. The speciality training is of three to eight years but is optional.
France
Universities in France are internationally known for practicing the highly renowned, age old medical tradition, teaching methodologies and state-of-art infrastructure. Unités de formation et de recherche de médecine (UFR) is the regulatory body that regulates the medical education in France. Medical education is strictly taught in the French language. One needs to register for FYHS (First Year of Health Studies) and pass the Medical Entrance Examination.
Germany

An M.B.B.S. graduate can think of the following career options- Anaesthetist or Anaesthesiologist, Bacteriologist,Cardiologist, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chiropodist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Dermatologist, Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Companies, Polyclinics,Private Practice, Research Institutes etc. with a general physician earning around Rs. 5.5 lacs, while a surgeon earns Rs. 7.5 lacs. Job profiles like that of specialists can easily attract around 10 to 12 lacs.
