Social Work is an educational discipline and a widely explained profession surrounded by several kinds of professionals who all work for people in need. Social Work is a practical work that serves poor and needy people. The particular work which is done by social workers relies upon their field in social work. The International Federation of Social Workers defines social work as “an interrelated system of values, theory, and practice.” Social workers are very different in the way that they perceive the aspects from many different angles from one person to a group, from the behavioral aspect to the environmental aspect. Some usual ways of helping the clients are by providing them with private and public resources. Social work is concerned with families, individuals, groups, and communities in order to improve their living conditions. Social workers are always interested in enhancing the way people live. They help in improving social functioning. Social workers apply social sciences like psychology, sociology, public health, political science, law, economics, and community development in order to involve themselves in conducting assessments to ensure that social problems are solved timely. The practice of social work is divided into two types: macro-work and micro-work. Macro work involves working with groups and communities to ensure change on a wider scale while micro-work involves working straight with social groups and individuals. Social work was developed in the 1800s, with its basis in grassroots organizing and voluntary philanthropy. Though the response to social needs survived long before the 19th century, social workers came to existence only because of the after-effects of the Great Depression and the Industrial Revolution.
Both the revolutions emphasized social work to be a more discipline academic field of interest.
In all, social work is all about helping groups and individuals in living a better life.
