Overview

Communication studies is an academic discipline that deals with processes of human communication. There are three types of communication: written, in which a message is read; verbal, involving listening to a person to understand the meaning of a message; and nonverbal communication involving observing a person and inferring meaning. The discipline comprises a range of topics from face-to-face conversation to mass media outlets, such as television broadcasting.

International students who want to attend communication schools are usually skilled writers or speakers. Every communication career will require the employee to be an exceptional communicator, tactful informer, ability to persuade, and to qualify effectively. Most students who want to go into communication generally have experience in writing for high school newspapers, developing a campaign, creating brochures, broadcasting on school television news or radio stations, and other communication-related practice. Many have enjoyed the power of speaking rhetorically and can understand how to communicate with various kinds of audiences. If one loves the art of communication, informing others or challenging viewpoints, whether it is with speaking or writing, a degree in communication may be right for the person.
