Masters of Dental Surgery known as MDS is a post graduate program in Dentistry. It is largely 2-3 year program. The post-graduation program after bachelor’s enhances analytical skills, research skills, advanced and critical skill development that are mandatory for specialist registration. Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge
It is that branch of Dental art and science focused on to the restoration and maintenance of oral function, health and appearance by the replacement of lost natural teeth and associated tissues either by a fixed and removable artificial substitutes.
Periodontology and Oral Implantology is the science dealing with the health and diseases of the supporting structures of the teeth and oral mucous membrane.
Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology
This subject deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the human jaws and associated oral and facial structures.
Conservative Dentistry and Endodontic
Conservative dentistry works with prevention and treatment of the diseases and injuries of the hard tissues and associated per apical lesions.
Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics
It deals with the methodology of prevention and correction of oral anomalies and malocclusion and the harmonizing of the structures involved so that it can function in a normal way.
Oral Pathology and Microbiology
Oral Pathology deals with the nature of oral diseases, their causes and effects. It involves the collaboration between the oral diseases to the physiologic and anatomic changes associated with these diseases.
Pediatric Dentistry and Preventive Dentistry
Pediatric Dentistry and Preventive Dentistry is the prevention and treatment of oral and dental ailments that occur in childhood.
It is preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting Dental Oral health through organized community efforts.
Oral Medicine and Radiology
Oral Medicine is the basic diagnostic procedures and techniques useful in recognizing the diseases of the oral tissues of local origin and their medical management. Radiology is a science dealing with x-rays and their uses in diagnosis and treatment of diseases in relation to or facial diseases.
An aspirant willing to pursue Master’s in Dental Surgery must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The aggregate score for BDS should be more the 55%.
He must have completed his one year internship before the start of the academic year and must be register with the DCI.
All students have to appear for the All India Common Entrance Test (AICTE). Few colleges will have their own Entrance Exams along with AICTE. The admission is based on merit.

The National Board of Exams which conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test MDS has issued the merit list for 50% of all India quota seats. The results declared are for the exams conducted on 14th December 2018. The scorecard is valid for academic year entrance for 2019. The scorecard is available to download on the official website by 10th march 2019.
Registration for Round I of NEET MDS counseling 2019 will commence from March 15 and ends on March 24. After successful registration and payment of fee, candidates can participate in choice filling process from March 19 onward.
Registration for second round of NEET MDS counseling will be held from April 5-9, while registration for mop-up round starts on May 13.
As it is a master’s degree it opens up more avenues than a bachelor’s degree. Your career prospects depend upon your specialization field.
