About Project Management

Overview

In the business world, creating and completing a successful project is a major problem for any company. If they receive big projects from their clients and are unable to deliver the product on time, they will lose the trust of clients and revenue too.

To make sure that the projects are completed on time, it is necessary to monitor the project status on a continuous basis, while simultaneously handling the project members efficiently. This is the importance of Project Management. In this article, we are going to look at what project management is, what are the various degrees available and what jobs you can land in this field of management.

Project Management refers to the planning, organizing and managing the resources allocated for the project to successfully complete its objectives. Though project management becomes very important in the big company, it is safe to say that small companies should also plan adequately for their projects. If you can deliver the client with an on time, quality product, it will greatly boost your company’s score and will attract more clients. I believe I have convinced you enough about the importance of project management. Let us discover the various types of project management techniques you can implement right away.

UG/PG degrees

To land a job in a good company, you need a degree for the job you aspire for. Here are some of the best courses available for project management.

MBA in Project Management

Every company needs a project manager with leadership and technical skills. Therefore, this course by Colorado Technical University, USA has been designed which helps the leaders of tomorrow integrate theory and practice of project management in their life. The course is designed to teach project planning, analysis, and budget handling skills. At the end of the course, you are supposed to handle a project and use the skills you learned to manage project time, resources and expenditure.

MSc. in Project Management

The success of any company depends on their capability to bring quality products on the table in a timely fashion. This is the reason why skilled project managers are such a necessity in recent times. The MSc. In Project Management course at Northeastern University, Boston, USA aims to inculcate the skills that are needed for building a successful project manager. Course spans for 1 year and with accreditation by Commission on Institutes of Higher Education, will develop the required skills quite effectively.

There are even more degree programs available, but all of them are just derivatives of these 2 courses, with little to no modifications in the curriculum. The major difference lies in the universities offering the courses. You have the option to choose from various universities in the world, with similar education quality. In the next section, we explore the top universities for obtaining a project management degree.

Exams required

Normally to study  abroad, the student is needed to produce their IELTS score or TOEFL score. These are language test and are very important if one wishes to study abroad as it checks the language proficiency of the student.

Course details

The beauty of project management lies in the various options you get. For the same project, you can apply different techniques to achieve better quality or faster, on time completion, or both. Here are some of the popular and most used techniques by top companies. If your project is highly flexible, dynamic, i.e., the requirements change way too often, and it needs speedy developing, then Agile methodology is best suited in your case. The whole project is broken into small modules, which the developers like to call “sprints”. There is no need to send the whole project at once. Instead, we send only certain modules of the project every week or two. This way, we can easily respond to change in requirements without the need to write the software from scratch. Also, we also conduct a regular client-developer meeting, to correctly record the reviews and future needs. This allows us to develop the projects as specified in the requirements and deliver them in a timely manner. Depending on the type of software, it is either deployed on site, or distributed for public usage. For example, if I develop IRCTC website, I must take it to IRCTC servers and deploy it there. But in case I develop Android application, I just need to publish it to the Play Store.

We also need to provide services after we deploy the software. We need to send regular software updates to fix bugs, add new features and maintain the system, based on customer feedback.

It can range from $90,000 to $ 500,000 for the managers and it has become one of the hotspot for the graduates.
