About Architecture

For all international students with an inclination towards architecture, urban planning, spaces, art and designs, buildings, structures, aesthetics, etc, then architecture is an ideal area of study to pursue. Architecture offers a career as an Architect, Architectural technologist, Interior and spatial designer, Building Surveyor, Commercial/residential surveyor, Construction manager, etc with knowledge and skills such as numeracy, design and drawing, IT skills, e.g. computer-aided design , project management, logical and rational problem-solving, critical analysis and resolution, leadership, team planning and efforts, along with written and oral communication, research skills, assertion and reasoning, etc.

What is Architecture? 

Architecture is a wholesome process that includes all the steps of building and designing spaces and structures, starting right from the process to the product of planning, designing, and even the final step of the construction of buildings or any other structures. Architecture courses abroad include the ability to create architectural projects of both aesthetic and technical utility, knowledge of architectural history, theory, art, technology, social sciences and fine art. Further, it includes the knowledge of urban design, applied planning techniques, the relationships between people and buildings, between buildings and their surroundings and spaces in general, the ability to understand the architect's profession and its function in society, knowledge of research methods and construction project preparation, structural design, construction, and engineering involved in construction projects, physical problems and various technological tools and education of complexities and intricacies of the industries, organisations, regulations and procedures of architecture.

Most of the architecture graduates and postgraduates get employed in the following fields-

Apart from this, architecture degrees inculcate the students with the following skills;

In order to study architecture abroad, these are the requirements-

  • Good Aggregate in 10th and 12th grade, above 90% in both for the top universities and above 75% with Maths and English as mandatory subjects for the others.
  • SAT Range: 1200-1570/1600 (writing, critical reading and mathematics)/ ACT Range: 27-35. Minimum score differs for countries, course levels and individual universities.
  • Letters of Recommendation from your recent professor.
  • TOEFL or IELTS (Above 6.0 band)- This is an English language testing assessment and it is necessary to score above 6.5 for top universities and 6.0 for other universities.

However, for some universities abroad, you also need a digital portfolio that shows your understanding of art through drawings, photographs, images and models. In addition, interviews are also conducted by universities for eligible students and you might require to take the written or practical assessment at the interview.
