About Edinburgh

The capital of Scotland and probably the most prominent city in the United Kingdom after London, Edinburgh is a strong financial center. As an internationally eminent city, Edinburgh is home to multitudes of religions, cultures, languages and nationalities. Its economy, formerly dependent on banking, brewing and publishing industries, is now dependent on the financial, higher education, scientific and tourism sectors.

Edinburgh’s educational scene is extremely prosperous and renowned. The University of Edinburgh is among the oldest universities in the world and constantly ranks among the top-30 internationally. It is the alma mater of several important figures in world history, ranging from inventors and scientists to authors and politicians, including 3 Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom. It provides courses across all avenues of study like economics, literature, law, medicine and mathematics.

Heriot-Watt University was the world’s first mechanics’ institute, currently offering courses in energy, engineering, textiles, design and business. Edinburgh Napier University offers both full-time and online education in applied sciences, business, computing, healthcare and the like to students from around 140 nations. In addition to these institutes, Edinburgh College, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Queen Margaret University (located on the outskirts) are also part of the educational scene.

As the capital of the nation, Edinburgh’s economic and educational fronts are at par with the most developed cities in the world. Coupled together, these factors make the city a perpetual student destination.
