Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia, is a city located along the coast line, renowned for its unique physical features. Its economy is renowned for its industry port activity, and coal mining. Wollongong has two educational hubs – the University of Wollongong and the Wollongong campus of the Illawarra Institute of TAFE.
University of Wollongong has over 32000 students, of which considerable parts are international students. The university has generally been voted as one of the best universities in the country and the world. It is the highest rated university in the nation for engineering, teacher education and communications and was voted the ‘Australian University of the Year’ for two consecutive years. It is renowned for its research initiatives and has also partnered up with a multitude of international organisations for placements and internships. Other than its notable courses, the university also provides education in fields of literature, biology, geography, mathematics, law, psychology, infrastructure, and the like.
Illawarra TAFE offers specialty courses in art and media, construction, mining, information technology, tourism, transport and a host of other fields. In addition to that, it also provided degrees and short skill-focused courses for school dropouts or people looking to change their career paths.
All in all, Wollongong is a little town with its two institutes offering quality education and a myriad of opportunities.
