About University Of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne is a public research university that was established in 1853, by Hugh Childers. Hugh Childers was the then finance minister and Auditor general. He has set aside an amount of 10,000 pounds for the establishment of the university. The minister gave the proposal for the establishment of the university in his first Budget speech, on the 4th of November 1852. The foundation stone was laid on 3rd July 1854 and the first class was conducted in 1855 with 16 students and 3 professors. Out of the 16 students, only 4 students had graduated. 

In 2015, the agriculture and the veterinary departments started working alongside, thereby starting the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences. The Faculty of Science was also started which was the combination of horticulture, forestry, geography and resource management. The University presently has around 8900 staff members, consisting of both academic and professional staff and has more than 52,000 students. This strong strength of students contains a huge group of candidates coming from around 130 countries. The number of international students is about 13,000.

Student Life

The campus of the University is definitely very huge. The campus is very friendly and has students of various cultures. It is, without doubt, a place for the interaction of the various cultures coming from several countries.

Accommodation Details

The college has three campuses which is located at walking distance from the residence hall. The residential building contains rooms which are spacious and also has specific study spaces. It also has a gym, basketball court and game room. It also has a music rehearsal studio. For applying for residential facilities, follow the following steps:
