About Memorial University of Newfoundland

Founded in 1925, the Memorial University of Newfoundland (also known as MUN or Memorial University) is located in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. It is a public research university. The campus at St. John's is the main campus, and the university has other four campuses. The four satellite campuses are located in St. John's and Corner Brook in Canada and Harlow, United Kingdom. Certificate, diploma courses along with undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses and online courses are offered by the university. 

Memorial University of Newfoundland Campus

The main campus, also the largest, at St. John's is home to all the main administrative buildings. The campus also has the building of all the main faculties and even student facilities like a bookstore, a bar, and cafe, etc. The university's radio station, CHMR-FM is also located on this campus. The Queen Elizabeth II Library, which houses a vast amount of historically critical literary artifacts is also located on this campus and is open to the students. There is also a Marine Institute of the university that offers courses in marine research and other navigation programs and is located on the St. John's Campus.

At MUN, there are more than 18,500 of total students studying at any time of the year across all levels of education. Around 4,000 postgraduate and 14,650 undergraduate students study at MUN.  Out of which approximately 85 percent are from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.   • The first residential complex, Paton College, offers dormitory-style residential spaces for 1000 students.

The place makes the most of the sunshine it gets because it gets bright sunshine during only the lucky times of the year. The following are some features of this city.

  • The most easterly point of North America, Cape Spear is very close to the city and it offers some incredible views of the sea and some historic lighthouses are present too.
  • Quidi Vidi is a part of the city that is famous for its craft arts and beer. There are some beautiful buildings and microbrewery in this area worth a visit.
  • Signal Hill is also a must-visit place when you're in St. John's. It is a trek away from the city and was the first place to receive a trans-Atlantic signal, hence the name. 
  • George Street has some good live music and pubs and perfect for student's night out.
  • You can also book a tour to see Puffins in one of the largest Puffin colonies in North America.

Students, especially postgraduate and doctoral, can apply to be a research assistant or an RA. An RA position can later help you in getting to be a professor's assistant or even an assisting professor. There might be even some administrative positions available for those who can qualify as per the role.
