How to Apply to Cape Breton University?

Cape Breton attracts applications from International students every year in large amounts due to the low fees and quality of education offered. Finalizing the university application can be a hectic process but can be simplified if you know how to apply for a course at Cape Breton University. 

  • First, understand and review the requirements for securing admission for your desired course. You can start to apply for the course at Cape Breton University once you have ensured that you match the eligibility requirements and criteria. 
  • Next, you will have to fill out the application form through the online website or portal. This process will require you to tender all your personal and professional information. It can roughly take anywhere between 30 mins to a couple of hours, so plan this process well in advance and as early as possible. 
  • After you have filled all the application form fields, you will have to pay an application processing fee of $36 for Canadian students and $103 for International students. Make sure that you save a copy of the payment receipt. 
  • The next step in the process is the document verification step, requiring you to send in copies of your personal and academic documents through the online application portal. Alternatively, this step can be completed by sending in the relevant documents through email, fax, or postal. 
  • Students who are currently pursuing a course at a post-secondary institution and wish to transfer to Cape Breton University, then you can check if they are eligible to receive transfer credits. To avail of these credits, one would require to fill out a Transfer Credit Assessment form and submit it via email. 
  • Lastly, you will have to wait for the status of your application which generally takes around 2 weeks or so and can take up to 5 weeks for International students. 

Cape Breton University Eligibility

Cape Breton University has different eligibility criteria and requirements based on the course chosen. The requirements vary between Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD courses. There are also various paths to admission for students based on whether the applicant. The following is the eligibility requirements for different courses: 

Eligibility for UG

  • An overall average of minimum 65% in high school is required by candidates seeking admission. 
  • Students who transfer from other institutes must have a good standing in their current institute. 
  • Candidates will also be required to submit their academic documents at admission either as physical copies or electronically scanned copies.

Eligibility for PG

  • Completed a Bachelor's degree at an accredited university with an overall average of B or above.
  • International applicants whose mother tongue is non-English will be required to submit scores of English Proficiency Tests. 
  • Students must submit a completed application form with a non-refundable application fee.
  • SOP, LOR, and all relevant documents must be submitted at the time of application. 

Eligibility for PhD

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree with a minimum overall average of B+ (75%) from a recognized university and must have included two mathematics courses with B+ grades. 
  • The English Test score requirement can be waived off if the applicant has at least two years of study at an institute where the medium of teaching is English. 
  • Students must submit a detailed and well-drafted statement of purpose and have all the relevant documents and test scores at the time of application.
