About Temple University

Temple University is a place to pursue life's passions with a nurturing learning environment. In 1884, Reverend Russell Conwell began tutoring young students who could only study at night because of their job.

Soon Conwell convinced the members of his congregation and others in the community to start "an Educational Institution intended primarily for the benefit of Working Men." In 1888, The Temple College received a charter of incorporation. The university has since evolved into one of the nations premier institutions for higher education.
