The University of Bath is a public university located in the United Kingdom, based in Bath, Somerset. Following the Robbins Report, it was granted a royal charter in 1966, together with a host of other institutions. Like the Universities of Bristol and the West of England, Bath can trace its origins back to the Merchant Venturers' Technical College, which was founded as a school in Bristol in 1595 by the Society of Merchant Partners.
