The University of Dundee is a public research university located in Dundee, Scotland. It is home to the first UNESCO centre in the UK.

  • According to the National Universities Ranking, it is ranked within the top 300 universities in the world and within the top 40 in the UK. It is also ranked among 300 by major global rankings.
  • It was awarded the title of Scottish University of the Year consecutively for 2 years in 2015/16 and 2016/17 by The Times Good University Guide. Also, the 2016 THE's 150 Under 50 Rankings placed Dundee 16th globally and 1st in the UK.
  • Being an old University, it has many Museums and archives. These museums and archives hold many collections, manuscripts and records.
  • 25 per cent of the students is from outside the UK. Dundee is one of the highest-ranked UK universities in the International Student Barometer.
  • The University is home to more than 17000 students and more than 3000 staff, helping to make Dundee Scotland’s most student-friendly city. The number of undergraduates is around 12000.

About University Of Dundee

History

The growing population of Dundee in the 19th century significantly increased demand for the establishment of an institution of higher education in the city. The University College, Dundee was founded in 1881. Later this college was incorporated into the University of St Andrews in 1897. The publication of the Robbins Report on Higher Education in 1963, which considered the question of university education expansion throughout the country, provided impetus to the movement to attain independent university status for Dundee. Finally, the University of Dundee came into independent existence on  August 1, 1967.

Overview

University of Dundee a large number of undergraduate, graduate and short courses. More than 15000 students are enrolled here for various courses. It has two major campuses.

  • The City campus which is located to the west end of the city of Dundee. 
  • The Fife campus located at Forth Avenue, Kirkcaldy, Fife for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

For international students, it offers two degrees namely international incorporated bachelor's degree and the international incorporated master's degree. Initially, Undergraduate students begin their studies with the International Stage One programme at ICD where they can choose one from Art & Design, Business, Life & Biomedical Sciences, Engineering & Physical Sciences, and Social Studies and many others. After this, they can continue in the University Of Dundee directly in their chosen field of interest.
