About University of Glasgow

In 1451, a papal edict established the University of Glasgow. It is the fourth-oldest university in Scotland and the fourth-oldest university in the United States. During the 18th century, it was a part of the Scottish Enlightenment, along with Edinburgh, St. Andrews, and Aberdeen. The University of Glasgow is one of the eight ancient universities in the United Kingdom that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in popular disciplines. The university is divided into four colleges: the College of Science and Engineering, the College of Arts, the College of Medical, Veterinary, and Life Sciences, and the College of Social Sciences.

The university is currently spread across several campuses. The main one is in Hillhead, at the Gilmore hill campus. There is also the Garscube Estate in Bearsden, which houses the Veterinary School, Observatory, ship model basin, and much of the university's sports facilities, the Dental School in the city Centre, the Mental Health and Well Being section at Gartnavel Royal Hospital on Great Western Road, the Teaching and Learning Centre at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The University of Glasgow is offering four scholarships (one per college) to applicants who are staying in the UK on humanitarian grounds but are having difficulty advancing to higher education. Prospective undergraduate and postgraduate taught students at the University of Glasgow applying for entry in 2022/23 are eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees for the duration of your program as well as a stipend of £5,000 per year. The Humanitarian Scholarship includes: full tuition fee waiver for the duration of study* a stipend of £5,000 per year for study costs

  • For applicants with refugee status, the Refugee Scholarship provides a Stipend of £2,500 per year.

Life At the University of Glasgow

  • Students get a support network, with the Student Counselling and Advisory Service as the main part of the network. It is available to all registered students of the University of Glasgow.
  • They have a Welcome Team, who meet the international students at the Glasgow Airport when they arrive. They also provide them with free transportation to the new student home.
  • The International Student Support also helps by running an orientation program for the new joiners. This helps in settling down well. There are also pre-session English lessons available for international students. 

Accommodation at the University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow has guaranteed its overseas students a place of accommodation. However, this is on the condition that the students have accepted an unconditional offer of studying. It also depends on the premise that the student has submitted his/her completed application form on/before the entry deadline for the year. This is usually the August month of the year. 

There are a total of 3,500 rooms provided for the students in the north-west of the city, which is 45 minutes walking distance from the main campus. 

Further, The Accommodation Office also assists the students in finding private accommodations, including flats, shared PGs, or lodgings.
