Ireland has become a popular choice for Indian students, but the story is more mixed than headlines suggest. Some reports show record numbers, while others describe a possible cap on student visas. A coach on AdmitKard's Study Abroad with Piyush channel also picked Ireland as one of five countries to watch for 2026-27. This guide checks the rules against official Irish and UK sources in October 2026.
- Ireland's minimum wage is 14.15 euros an hour from 1 January 2026
- Graduates with a master's degree can get up to 24 months of stay-back permission, and bachelor's graduates get 12 months
- Students must show immediate access to at least 10,000 euros for a course starting after 1 July 2023
- The UK Graduate visa shortens to 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027.
Is Ireland Really Growing for Indian Students in 2026?
Reports say yes, but mostly from commercial sources. One study-abroad firm says Indian students in Ireland rose from about 700 to more than 9,000 over a decade, and above 13,000 in 2026. We did not find official 2025-26 figures, and other reports describe softer new intake, so treat the numbers as indicative.
Counts differ by source and academic year. For official data, look at the Higher Education Authority and the Irish Department of Further and Higher Education. Popular courses in the reports are computer science, data science, business analytics, finance and pharmaceutical sciences.
Education in Ireland: Courses, Universities and VisasRead →Can Ireland Cap Student Visas for Indian Students?
A May 2026 report said officials were modelling a temporary quota on non-EU study visas for the September 2026 intake, with options such as an India-specific quota or higher funds. We found no confirmed decision. Treat this as a risk, keep a backup country, and check Irish Immigration before you apply.
The same reports mention housing pressure in Dublin and Cork as a reason intake may soften. Those claims come from commentary rather than official data, so confirm current conditions with your university before you pay a deposit.
Why Are Indian Students Choosing Ireland?
The coach points to tech employers with headquarters in Ireland, English-language study, a minimum wage higher than the UK or Canada, and a 24-month stay-back for master's graduates. He also warns that many students pick the same courses, such as data science, finance and MBA, so choose a course and network early.
The 24 months come in two 12-month blocks. The second needs proof that you have taken steps to find graduate-level work, such as attending interviews. Ireland's Stamp 1G lets you work full time without an employment permit while you search.

Ireland gives master's graduates up to 24 months and bachelor's graduates 12 months of stay-back. The UK Graduate visa lasts 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027, two years before that date, and three for doctorates. Check each government site before relying on these periods, because rules change.
| Country 2026 | Stay-back after a master's | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Ireland | Up to 24 months (two 12-month blocks) | Irish Immigration, Third Level Graduate Programme |
| Ireland, bachelor's | 12 months | Irish Immigration |
| UK | 18 months if applying from 1 Jan 2027 | GOV.UK Graduate visa |
What Money Do You Need to Show for an Irish Student Visa?
You must show immediate access to at least 10,000 euros for the first year of a course starting after 1 July 2023, plus your course fees. Each later year needs the same level of funds. Bank statements must cover the last six months and credit cards are not accepted as evidence.
Visa-required students are checked on funds during the visa application, so they do not repeat it at registration. Shorter courses use a monthly rate. Amounts can change, so check Irish Immigration before you apply.
How Many Hours Can You Work in Ireland as a Student?
Students on Stamp 2 can work up to 20 hours a week during term time and up to 40 hours a week in the holidays. Holiday periods are June to September and 15 December to 15 January. Ireland's minimum wage is 14.15 euros an hour from 1 January 2026.
Stamp 2 applies to full-time courses on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes. Students on Stamp 2A have no work rights, so confirm your stamp type before you accept a course.
