Allahabad University is one of the esteemed universities in India. It was established on 23^rd September 1887 and is the fourth oldest university of the nation and was popularly known as ‘Oxford of the East’. Allahabad University has been encouraging and facilitating women’s education for the past 113 years. The Allahabad University is located in Prayagraj, UP. The University initially functioned under the affiliation of the University of Calcutta and then later got the status of Central University.

Allahabad University started establishing its teaching departments in the field of Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, and Law. The achievements and endeavors of Allahabad University bagged them the title of ‘Premier Institution’ (Vishesh Agrani Sanstha) in 1992.

Allahabad University offers a wide range of courses for undergraduate, postgraduate, and M.Phil. In order to get admission in any of these courses, the candidate has to apply for the entrance exam conducted by Allahabad University. Shortlisted candidates have to further clear GD and PI to get admission.

Allahabad University has approximately constituent colleges that offer about 100 courses across 10 streams. The fee structure for every course is different and also provides various scholarships and fellowships to students. The University acknowledges the academic excellence of students and offers scholarship programs to aid financial assistance.

Apart from academic excellence, the University also promotes personality development among students. Allahabad University has a National Cadet Corp that inculcates values like discipline and punctuality, Athletic Association that encourages talented youth to practice and hone their skills in different sports and National Service Scheme to promote the government’s initiative of healthy and fit India.

Allahabad University offers a student living in a healthy and prosperous environment by providing Hostel facilities to the students. There are separate hostels for Boys and Girls to provide a secure and hassle-free lifestyle that helps them to focus on their academics and other activities. Students who are interested in Politics can be a part of the Student Union. The University is against ragging and harassment and thus has an Anti-Ragging Cell managing and monitoring unacceptable behavior of students.

Apart from these facilities, Allahabad University offers –

Library – Central Library gives students access to a variety of reading material and resources. The library is designed in such a manner that it can hold the strength of more than 500 students at a time. The library also has a cubicle pattern of sitting arrangements for students pursuing research.
E-Journals – Allahabad University encourages and supports students to perform research in their field of interest. The University also has its academic journal that facilitates the research by publishing it in its journal.
Workshops/ Seminars/ Conferences – Allahabad University organizes conferences, workshops, and seminars for the benefit of the students. These events give students exposure to the world and help them to understand the nitty-gritty of their field of interest.
College Events – Allahabad University also organizes college events like Fresher’s Function, Alumni Meet (Aagaaz) for students to interact with other students from different institutions, and develop the idea of a community.
University Employment Information & Guidance Bureau (UEIGB) – The Cell, in collaboration with the alumni of the Allahabad University, helps students in career counseling and guidance for fellowships, internships, and other employment opportunities. The cell also trains and guides students for recruitments and competitive exams.
Women Advisory Board – Allahabad University has always worked for women empowerment. This Committee is another initiative taken by the University to spread awareness about gender sensitization. The Committee also started special self-defense classes for women.

Courses and Programs

Professional programs in electronic and telecommunication engineering, educational training, business management, law, medicine, human resource development and management, journalism and mass communication, etc., recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by NAAC are provided by Allahabad University. More than five departments are aided by UGC Departments of Special Assistance, and some of the departments of the University, such as Ancient History, Culture & Archaeology, and Psychology department, are recognized as UGC centers of advanced studies.

Allahabad University offers several different undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, and D.Phil programs along with Post Graduation Diploma courses through its 11 constituent colleges. In alliance with Aligarh Muslim University, Allahabad University also provides a Ph.D. in Business Management. In 2017, the National Institutional Ranking Framework placed Allahabad university amongst the leading 100 universities in India.
