Interior Design Courses

Interior design is an art of beautifying and improving the interiors of a house or office according to the needs and comfort of people using the space. This field has taken its own course in a long period of time. It is the art of using the space accurately.

There are various interior design courses in India at various degrees. For the under graduation, there are three types of degrees offered, such as Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma and certificate courses. 

Bachelor’s Degree Courses offers the following courses:

BA Interior Design, BA Interior Architecture and Design, and B.Sc. Interior Design, which is for a duration of 3 years, Bachelor of Design(B.Des.) Interior Design, which is for a duration of 4 years, Bachelor of Architecture and Interior Design and Bachelor of Interior Design (CEPT course), which is for a duration of 5 years.
The eligibility criteria for all the courses mentioned above are usually 10+2 passed out from any stream in the intermediate level of education. There are universities that ask for specific minimum marks for filtering the students; on average, it is around 50% marks.

Although to stand out in a pile of applications and to showcase the excellent skills, students are encouraged to write additional entrance exams such as NATA, CEED, NID, CEPT entrance test for admission in CEPT, etc.

With many top institutes offering merit-based admissions, students with good marks in 10+2 and entrance exams are considered as the first priority. The degrees available for interior designers are B.Sc., B.Des., BA, B.Voc. And B.E./B.Tech. Students can opt for their interested majors in these degrees.

Currently, there are 500+ colleges offering courses in this field. Graduates from here may choose to do masters in their fields that include MA, M.Sc. for a duration of 2 years, Master of Interior Design for two and a half years, Master of Design or M.Arch. Program-related to interior designing, ME/MTech, MBA/PGDM.

These graduates can also choose an option of PG Diploma or PG Certificate courses. Students can opt for specializations in various fields according to their interest level, such as fashion design, graphic design, lifestyle accessory design, and so on.

The specializations offered for PG courses are considered at a higher-end, such as landscape design, product design, building energy efficiency, sustainable design and technology, and so on. 

Similar to the various undergraduate courses, there are various diploma courses offered in interior designing that is, Diploma in Interior Design and Diploma in Interior Design and Architecture. 

The duration of these courses is around 1-2 years. Eligibility criteria for these are considered the same as for the above with 10+2 as a mandate, and few universities have a minimum cut off of 50% approximately.

The admission process to these courses may be direct or merit-based, depending on the universities. On completing the diploma course, students may choose to continue their studies, and they should opt from degrees B.A., B.Sc., or B.Arch related to interior design and architecture.

With a Bachelor’s degree and Diploma courses, there is also an inclusion of Certificate courses. These courses are not as valuable as Bachelors or Diploma courses, and also the duration of this course is very short from anywhere between 6 months to a year. The eligibility criteria remain the same, but few colleges even accept passed out 10th students.

  • Arch Academy of Design in Jaipur and many more.
