Stanley Medical College

Stanley Medical College was established in 1938.  It is a government-owned medical college with many associated hospitals. Stanley Hospital is really very old and nearly has a 200-year-old legacy serving the native Chennai. New medical and surgical units were created and incorporated in 1941. Stanley medical college was founded by Sir George Fedrick Stanley on July 2, 1938. It was first named as Royapuram medical school and later on, it was renamed as Stanley Medical college because of him.

Students at Yorkville University are provided with a welcoming and supportive environment.  Apart from well-equipped classrooms, a goal-focused education is what the University emphasizes on to get the students started on their successful careers. Every day there is an outpouring of patients from different parts of Chennai and also from Andhra Pradesh. Students can easily get the best practical knowledge and experience through their daily Out Patient sessions and clinical postings inwards.

The first-year professors and faculties are very friendly and helpful. Medical College, Hospital and Hostels are located very close to each other. Students do not have to walk a mile or catch a bus to go to their classes from the hostel. The institute houses several departments of the hospital including nephrology, dermatology, and neurology.

The Institute Hand rehabilitation and Plastic Surgery and Institute of Gastroenterology are gems in the crown of Stanley and are the best in the State of Tamil Nadu. Students can get the best hands-on experience during their one year of CRRI (Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship). Library facilities and Research works are of par excellence.

There will be many events in the College every year such as ‘Empower’ the academic extravaganza, Stanley and Entheos the Sports fiesta, Euphoria the art carnival. There will be various clubs and groups for the students to join and grow their talents- Stanboots, Green hands, Resonance are to name a few.  Stanley’s days will be fun-filled and joy packed times of any student’s life which they won’t regret.

Scholarships:

The College also provides scholarships to students on merit basis. Students may apply for the same at the beginning of the academic year. Stanley Medical College Admission:

Students who wish to apply for Stanley Medical College have to appear for the NEET entrance examination to qualify for the admission process. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates can apply to the college through their NEET UG  Medical Scorecard for any undergraduate programs.
  • Candidate can apply to the college through their NEET PG  Medical Scorecard for postgraduate programs.

Undergraduate Courses:

High Secondary School Certificate or Senior Secondary exam by the SSC, CBSE, ICSE or any equivalent exam conducted by any State Board or Equivalent.

He/she must have scored a minimum of 50% Aggregate marks in PCB/Biotech.

Post Graduate Courses:

  • Applicants should have a Graduation and Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (MBBS).

Stanley Medical College Cut-Off

Students who wish to apply for Stanley Medical College have to appear for the NEET entrance examination to qualify for the admission process. They need to secure a minimum score set by the college selection board as per the availability of seats. On the basis of this, a merit list is created.

  • The Undergraduate cut-off for UR Category in 2019 was 701-134. For the OBC/SC Category the cut-off score was 133-107.
  • The Undergraduate cut-off for UR-PH Category was 133-120. For the OBC/SC Category, the cut-off was 119-107. 

NEET Undergraduate Cut-Off for Stanley Medical College:

The NEET Undergraduate cut-off for UR Category in 2018 was 119 out of 720

For OBC, SC and ST the cut-off score was 96 out of 720.

Stanley Medical College Hostel:

The first year and second-year students stay in the NEW MEN’S PG HOSTEL along with the postgraduate students. It was built in 2011 and looks very neat and tidy. This is located opposite the hospital.

The third and final year students are allotted hostels near the hospital itself called H, I and RED block. They are very old but the surrounding is very pleasant.

In each hostel, they have a recreation room and an air-conditioned Reading room that is kept open 24/7 for the students.

Stanley Medical College Hostel fees: 

The Stanley college hostel fees for students is 3500 per month. This includes fees for stay and the basic amenities provided in the room and mess fees. 

Stanley Medical College Hospital: 

The Stanley medical Hospital has around 1280 beds for patients undergoing treatment. Over 5000 out-patients visit the hospital every day. The Hospital is an 8-storey building well-equipped with the best technologically advanced equipment like ventilators, X-ray and sonography machines and all the required surgical tools. At a time, 40 surgeries can be performed at the Hospital. The doctors ensure to provide world-class services to the patients and have expertise in their respective fields. It also has a paediatrics block specially designed and equipped with the best facilities.

They welcome everyone whole-heartedly. They will never make you feel like an outsider. The language will never be a barrier. People will be pleased to teach you Tamil. Apart from that, there are lots of gorgeous beaches, historic temples, shopping malls, etc to entertain yourself. You can watch a movie in a nice theatre (Sathyam, PVR, Escape) at a fairly low price.

The faculty here is great. They are experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic to teach the young minds. Clinical as well as non- clinical subjects are taught well enough to inspire budding doctors.

Studies depend on you. Quizzes, Symposiums, Seminars, etc are frequently organized. It’s up to you whether to be a part of it or just be an audience. Academic fest Empower is also held every year, which is loaded with various workshops.
