Mechatronics is the branch of engineering that deals with the study of both mechanics and electronics. It is one of the streams which has high scope in various industrial applications. It is the integration of robotics and electromechanical engineering. Electromechanical systems, robotics, and control systems come understudy of mechatronics. Mechatronics was introduced in the intention of the growth in the automation and manufacturing industry.

The word Mechatronics was introduced by a Japanese-English engineer Tetsuro Mori who used to work in Yaskawa Electric Corporation. The word was initially registered as a trademark of the company in 1971, and later it was released to be used publicly. Mechatronics involves the study of telecommunications and product engineering as well. It can also be called as modern mechanical engineering.

The study of mechatronics was established in 1995 so that a deep understanding of electronics, control systems, mathematical modeling, and high tech nanotechnology field could be combined together. Some examples of mechatronics are DVD player, Television, CD, cassettes, music system, etc. These are the products of mechanics but cannot function without the integral design of computer control and electrical systems.

Few important points to remember in Mechatronics:

  • Mechatronics was introduced in 1995 to combine the study of electronics, control systems, mathematical modeling, high tech nanotechnology field.
  • The word Mechatronics was introduced by Japanese English engineer in 1971.
  • Mechatronics was found to grow the industry of automation and manufacturing
  • It involves the study of both mechanics and engineering.
  • It is the integration of robotics and electromechanical engineering.

Mechatronics engineering is tougher than other courses of engineering as it covers the study of mechanics, electrical, automation, robotics, etc. A mechatronics engineer does have a lot of opportunities to develop smart machines as per evolvement. One can learn to work in all aspects of technology in mechatronics engineering, like designing to manufacturing.

A mechatronics engineer can involve himself in developing products, testing, and installing new equipment. They can manage the mechanical and electrical systems.
