Top German Universities for MS in Mechanical Engineering

Over the years, Germany has emerged out as one of the top educational hubs all over the world. With each passing year, there has been a significant increase in the number of students enrolling in Germany to seek education in engineering, medical, management, etc. Around 3,21,000 students enrolled in Germany in 2015 for higher education which was almost 7% higher than those who registered in 2014.

Engineering has always been the top most priority for students, and when it comes to the “mother of all branches” -the Mechanical Engineering, Germany offers a wide range of universities.

RWTH Aachen or Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule Aachen is the largest university of technology located in the northwestern part of Aachen in Europe. It offers good quality courses and is equipped with some excellent teachers and therefore stands out as a university where every year maximum number of students enrol themselves from different nations. For now, around 44000 people have been enrolled in 144 different study programs, which makes RWTH as the largest technical university.

Two German newspapers- Handelsblatt and Wirtschaftswoche declared RWTH as the best university in Germany for Mechanical engineering. Along with mechanical engineering, electrical and chemical engineering are amongst those streams for which RITH has been considered really good consistently over the years.


The Brandenburg University of Technology is present in the federal state of Brandenburg and with over 8000 students it is the second largest university. The University was founded on the year 1991. Though being a newly formed university, it is well equipped with good technical facilities and with experienced teachers who make the going easy for the students.

The University has been divided into a number of faculties each comprising a few engineering(or otherwise) courses.

Faculty 1 comprises of courses like Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Faculty 2 comprises of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Faculty 3 comprises of Mechanical had Electrical Engineering, etc.


The Otto Von Guericke University, Magderburg was founded in the year 1993 and is thus the youngest technical university in Germany. The university is named after the physicist Otto Von Guericke and comprises or various faculties for courses like Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, Natural sciences, mathematics, etc.

The TU Braunschweig University was founded in the year 1745 and is thus the oldest technical university in Germany. The university is well renowned for its specialisation in mechanical and electrical engineering and is ranked amongst the top university for technological studies in Germany.

Under mechanical engineering, the university offers courses in Aeronautical, Automotive, industrial, manufacturing and energy processes. Its iBMB Institute has been accredited by the German Institute for Building Technology.


Founded in 1825, created in 2009, KIT is a popular public research university located in Karlsruhe, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

KIT has been ranked sixth out of hundreds of engineering universities in Europe. German Universities Excellence Initiative honoured KIT with a status of excellence in the year 2006-2007.

In the year 2013-14, in one of the popular rankings, it went passed the much famous RWTH Aachen University of Germany, as it scored a world rank of sixty-one whereas RWTH remained on 89.
