IGNOU stands for Indira Gandhi National Open University and it is a university that started after an act and is a government or public research university. The university initially was started with only courses which were: Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education. With a start of over 4,000 students today the university almost covers 3 million students from different colleges and institutions which are affiliated under the name of IGNOU.

There are a total of 810 faculty members present in the university among which 574 are academic staff members and the rest are administrative members all around the network. The university also has a network of almost 33,000 academic counselors placed across the network for every course guiding the students through thick and thin.
