St. Thomas University also known as STU is a non profit, private, catholic university which was first established in the year 1961.

St. Thomas University was first founded as was founded as the Universidad Católica de Santo Tomás de Villanueva, which was named after Saint Thomas of Villanova in the year 1946 in Havana, Cuba. In 1961 when the institution was uprooted by militia, it then shifted to Miami as men's college. It later became a co-ed institution and in 1984, its famous School of Law was established.  St. Thomas is the only Catholic Archdiocesan sponsored university in the state of Florida due to its high level of excellence.

The St. Thomas University offers to its more than 4200 students, 23 undergraduate courses, 24 graduate courses, four doctoral programs, and also one professional law degree program. The university is affiliated with Southern Association of Colleges and Universities (SACS) and attracts international students from more than 70 countries all around the globe. The St. Thomas University is also famous for providing its students with international exposure in countries like India, Israel, Croatia, Italy or Spain. It has a 150-acre campus with residential halls available for students to enjoy various cultures as the university has one of the most diverse set of students culturally in the whole of Florida.
