About McGill University

McGill University is a public research university in the Canadian city of Montreal. The university carries the name of James McGill, a Scottish trader whose donation in 1813 established the university's antecedent, the University of McGill College (or simply McGill College); the name was officially changed to McGill University in 1821 by a royal charter granted by King George IV. McGill University has been a member of the Association of American Universities, an organisation that brings together the greatest North American research universities, since 1926. McGill is also a founding member of Universitas 21, a worldwide network of outstanding research-intensive universities that work together to enhance and improve global reach.

McGill University Campus

The university's main Downtown Campus is divided between the lower and upper campuses and is located in Montreal, Québec, Canada. Downtown is home to approximately 3,000 undergraduate students. How to Apply to the McGill University?

  • To apply for graduate programs, you must have a bachelor's degree in a comparable discipline.
  • Non-native English speakers must meet English language requirements.
  • Course-specific requirements, in addition to the academic requirements, must be met.
  • Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide either of the following exam scores: IELTS- 6.5, TOEFL- 90, or more.
  • Indian applicants must have a three- or four-year degree with a minimum of a 60% average.
