How to apply in McGill University

McGill University accepts applications from its application portal for both undergraduate and graduate course admissions. The student is required to register on the admission portal of the university before applying. The university portal guides you through your application process. Students are required to choose at the least, one major/faculty/program. The mode of submission of documents, either through post or online, depends on the course, and it will be displayed at the time of application.

Masters in McGill University

It is a 57-credit program with a duration of 2 years. Life at McGill University

  • Students at McGill can reside in one of the few halls of residence on the campus or rent off-campus residences.
  • Residence halls at McGill have a lot of historical stories behind them. One of them, the Royal Victoria College, has a statue of Queen Victoria given by her daughter Princess Louise.
  • The university also has off-campus residences for a few numbers of students.
  • There are many NGOs on the campus which are renowned worldwide for their work and that the students can participate in. UNESCO and McMUN, which is McGill's Model of United Nations, are present among the many.
  • Montreal offers cheaper accommodation than other metropolitan cities in Canada while providing all amenities.

The university has both on-campus and off-campus residential facilities. The off-campus residences are a few 4-star hotels converted to student residences. 

McGill University On-campus accommodation

  • Six dormitory-style residence halls. Each hall features single rooms and shared bathrooms.
  • 3 Modern-style residence halls, Carrefour Sherbrooke, New Residence Hall, La Citadelle. These have double sharing rooms with private bathrooms.
  • One apartment-style residence in Solin Hall. These have private rooms with sharing space and kitchen.
  • While graduate students have apartment-style residences and shared housing residences. 
  • Greenbriar apartments, Hutchison apartments, 3643 University apartments, and Rexford Hall Apartments offer apartment-style living for both undergraduate and postgraduate students while there are several houses around Montreal approved by the university for house-sharing style residences.

  • Since living in house-sharing is mostly common among students in Canada. The university has several houses across the city that offer house-sharing residences for only students.

It is home to many French-language media houses and other industries. 

  • Montreal has an exciting food scene. There are places with cuisine from all over the world. There are street fairs where you can taste authentic food from each part of the world.
  • Mount Royal is the mountain after which Montreal was named. The mountain has a hiking trail and a natural park for those who want to stay fit and active, along with being in the presence of nature.
  • The Underground City in Montreal is a big network of subterranean spaces where you can shop and eat.
  • Old Montreal is worth exploring, it has all the old-world charms from the time of the French settlers.
  • The PY1 is a concert venue, unique to itself. It is a pyramid with laser projections and other cool effects where gigs are held.

Career at McGill University

Postgraduate students can work as assistants to the professors in the faculty they might be studying in. Usually, doctoral students are preferred for this post. In their postgraduate studies, students can apply to be an RA, which is the Research assistant that can progress to TA, teacher's assistant. This is a great way to earn as well as to have in your experience. There are a few administrative assistant positions too for those that qualify the requirements.
