About University Of Melbourne
The University of Melbourne is a public research university that was established in 1853, by Hugh Childers. It was only in 1857, that the college’s law school was established. The school of engineering and medicine was opened in 1861 and 1862 respectively. In 1881, the university started accepting women candidates. It was in 1901, that more than 500 students had enrolled at the University of Melbourne. The university was held back by a few factors, such as the discovery of fraud in the university registrar and the economic depression of 1890. Despite all this, the university kept growing at a steady pace. The campus situated at Parkville is the primary campus. It was originally established in the northern area of the Grattan Street in Parkville but has now expanded beyond the street boundaries with its new buildings being situated in a nearby suburb of Carlton. The University of Melbourne has a total of 8 campuses out of which the main one is in Parkville. The eight campuses are in Parkville, Southbank, Burnley, Creswick, Dookie, Shepparton and in Werribee. All these campuses are large and are divided into different buildings which are dedicated to different subjects and disciplines.
