<p>Southampton is a port city in Hampshire, on the south coast of London. It is the home port for some of the largest cruise ships in the world. It is situated close to the capital city of London. The city has a well-connected network of rail, road, and sea, making it an ideal city to work and settle in. It is also famous for the SeaCity Museum, home to an interactive model of the Titanic, which departed from Southampton in 1912. The city has had 500 years of important history, playing a significant role as a maritime port. A resident of the city is called a Sotonian.</p>

<p class="c0"><span class="c1">On 15th October 1862, the Hartley Institution was stated to be open by Lord Palmerston. Hartley inherited a family of Southampton wine merchants. A studious and reclusive character, he had turned his back on the family business, and when he died, he left his estate to the corporation of Southampton to promote the study and advancement of science and learning.</span></p>
