About Wellington Institute Of Technology

Founded as the Petone Technical School in 1904, it has made its permanent home on the current site in 1908. After going through some name changes over the years, WelTec was formed by merging the Central Institute of Technology, when WelTec was named Hutt Valley Polytechnic. In 1995, it was announced that there would be a secondary campus in Wellington city. The CIT expanded its social services operations in Auckland and hence a campus was soon established in Auckland as well. Having a campus in the two main cities of New Zealand, Auckland and Wellington make WelTec a widespread and high-quality education provider in the country.

Initially focused on providing quality vocational courses, WelTec has offered many bachelor degrees programs along with being consistent in offering courses in trades. The main administrative building and the StudentHub is located in the Petone campus along with several other academic buildings. Since the School of Construction is based in Petone but on a distance from the main campus, it provides space for students to work on up to 6 houses at the same time.
