National Integrity: Definition

The bond and fellowship among people of one country irrespective of their caste, race, color, creed, religion, or gender are called National Integrity. It is the sense of unity and brotherhood amidst various societies and groups in a country. It breaks barriers and makes people aware of one common identity that they have of their nation.

National Integration: Importance

National Integration plays an important role in the Nation’s progress and strength. India is the finest example as it motivated us towards independence and freedom. It helps with democracy, economic growth, and development of the country. It depends on some particular ideas, thoughts, values, morals, and beliefs of the Nation. It mainly focuses on providing a better abode for the people of the nation. It unites the people in case of any national emergency.

National integration plays a very important role in the political, economic, cultural, and social dimensions of a country. It contributes to the country in the following ways:

  • Promotes Social Harmony
  • Unites the Nation
  • Increases Economic Growth
  • Promotes Loyalty for the Nation

National integration plays a more significant role in present times. Hence it has challenges like communalism, regionalism, etc. Global terrorism is also one of the major threats to national integration.

National Integration Day

National Integration Day also is known as Quami Ekta Divas is celebrated on 19 November in India as the birth anniversary of the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The National Integration day is advocated to improve the affection and unity among the people of India.

National Integration Council

The National Integration Council (NIC) is an advisory body for the government of India that looks for methods to direct the problems of communalism, casteism, and regionalism. It was formed in 1961 and this council has the Prime Minister of India as the chairman and the members are cabinet ministers, chief ministers, opposition leaders, businessmen, famous personalities, and media personalities.

Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration

The Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration is a prestigious award is given every year on 30th January, since 1985. It is awarded to eminent individuals or institutions for promoting unity understanding and comradeship amongst religious groups, communities, ethnic groups, cultures, languages, and traditions of India and the strengthening, through thought and action of the nation’s sense of solidarity. The Awardee is chosen by an Advisory Committee of renowned persons who represent art, science, culture, education, literature, religion, welfare work, journalism, law, and public life.
