The SC Scholarship is a broad term used for various scholarships that are offered to students belonging to the SC category for the purpose of education. The scholarship aims at promoting quality education to students belonging to the SC category, by providing them full financial support. Such scholarships are offered by both government departments as well as private organizations.

The scholarships cover SC students who pursue their studies beyond 12th standard, and they aim to meet the following requirements of SC students:

  • Full Tuition fee
  • Non-refundable charges
  • Living expenses to the beneficiary at Rs. 2220 per month per student
  • Books and Stationery 
  • The latest computer with various accessories

The SC Scholarships are funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Employment and are payable to students if they secure admission in an institution notified by the Ministry. The students who have been awarded the same must carry out the study in the institution on a full-time basis. The scholarships continue until the completion of the course, with respect to adequate performance.

Pre-matric Scholarship: Highlights

  1. Objective: To reduce the number of dropouts due to lack of funds
  2. For classes IX and X
  3. Duration: 10 months
  4. Amount ranges from Rs 225/month to Rs 750/month

Post-matric Scholarship: Highlights

  1. Objective: To support students willing to study after matriculation 
  2. Divided into groups (mentioned in the table below)
  3. Students receive periodic reimbursements for excursions, printing charges, and book allowance. 

Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship: Highlights

  1. Offered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
  2. Eligibility: A degree from an institution recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC)
  3. For students pursuing M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees
  4. Offers INR 25,000
  5. National Overseas Scholarship: Highlights
  1. Objective: To support SC students who wish to study abroad. 
  2. For students pursuing Masters or PhD
  3. Duration: 4 years
  4. Number of scholarships: 100, inclusive of the 30% reserved for female candidates
  5. Maximum Eligible Age: 35
  6. Candidate must score at least 55% in their last examination

What is the SC Scholarship in Karnataka?

Karnataka offers several scholarships to SC students for educational purposes. These scholarships are offered with an objective to reduce the number of dropouts because of monetary constraints. The scholarships so offered are awarded by Government as well as Private Institutions. The scholarships that are awarded have been listed below.

  1. Pre-Matric Scholarship

  2. The eligible students are required to fill out the form correctly and send it to District level authorities.
  3. If the application is accepted, the administrations delegate powers to sanction scholarships under the appropriate scheme. 
  4. If the application is rejected, the student is not allowed any scholarship amount.

To renew a particular SC Scholarship scheme, the candidate must log in to his/ her portal via https://scholarships.gov.in/renewal/loginPage.action

On logging on, he/ she must follow the steps mentioned for the renewal of the scholarship.

  3. Submit all relevant documents.
