Community Certificate – How to apply and Benefits for the Certificate

Community Certificate is an important document needed especially by Indian Students. The caste or the community certificate states your religion, caste and other specifications. The community certificate is issued by the government of India to its citizens.

It is mostly the responsibility of the state government to publish the community certificate for its citizens. The community certificate can prove to be very beneficial for students to get admission advantage or even for candidates in their jobs (if they belong to a special category).

What is a community certificate?

Mostly needed for reservation purposes the Community certificate is the document solely for the purpose of specifying the caste of an individual. The certificate is issued according to the rules laid out by the government.

The community certificate is mostly used by the special categories such as “Scheduled Tribe”, “Scheduled Caste” and other backward castes which are stated in the constitution of India.

Apply for Community Certificate Online

One can apply for the community certificate online through the official portal of India. The following information has to be specified in the APPLICATION FORM FOR COMMUNITY CERTIFICATE.

  • Name of the Applicant
  • Father’s name or Husband’s Name
  • Sex (male or female)
  • Ration Card No. : (A copy of it has to be attached)
  • School Leaving Certificate (A copy of it also has to be included)
  • Transfer Certificate (A copy of the transfer certificate has to be included)
  • Details of the Community Certificate owned by the Parents (A copy of it has to be included with the form)
  • Date of Application
  • Signature of the Applicant

One can apply for the community certificate through both online and offline mediums. If you wish to apply it offline you can go to one of the Seva Centre in your state. If you are applying online then you can visit the online official portal of your state government.

Community Certificate Download

It can take up to about 15 days for your community certificate to be issued. A nominal fee might be charged for it.

A community certificate is published and distributed offline. One can apply for it online but the distribution and obtaining it will be done offline.

You can’t print the community certificate and obtain it, you will receive it by postal surface.

Community Certificate Status

The status of the online tracking of the caste or the community certificate can be checked out. That can be done on the official site of the state government portal.

The community certificate status can be checked on the state government site portal. Visit the online site ad enter your information. This information is your Application ID (the registration number) and the Captcha. In some sites, additional information can also be asked so fill accordingly.

If you wish to track the status of your community or caste certificate then you have to go to “Track Your Application” and fill the information to check for the tracking status.

Self Declaration of Minority Community Certificate by the Students

People who belong to the Minority Category can get the certificate. Students belonging to the minority community can fill the form for self-declaration.

This form is available in PDF form by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. This certificate can be needed when applying for scholarships or admissions. The self-declaration form can be filled and edited online or printed out and submitted offline.

Community Certificate Date

This question is often by UPSC students. Students applying for Civil Service Examination and belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe or the Other Backward Classes have to mention the Community Certificate Date. 

The community certificate date is the date mentioned on your caste certificate when this certificate was issued to you. One doesn’t have to worry about the validity of their community certificate as it is valid for a lifetime.

For example, You live in the state of Delhi and belong to the special community that does get their community certificate. You have to visit the Delhi Government’s online official portal i.e., edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/en/Public/VerifyCertificate.html

Here a variety of certificates by the government for the Indian citizens living in Delhi can be verified.

  1. Select your department for which you need the certificate.
  2. Mention for what you have applied for in the “Applied for” section.
  3. Enter your application ID or your certificate number.
  4. Enter the name of the applicant.
  5. Fill the captcha.
  6. Click on Search for the verification procedure.

How to get a community certificate for my child?

Parents can get a community certificate for their children. The children should fulfill the eligibility criteria for their community certificate. The eligibility for getting the community certificate are as follows:

  1. The person should belong to SC, ST or the OBC Category.
  2. The person should be a citizen of India.
  3. The person should reside in the same state he is applying for.
  4. If applying for a kid, he or she should be older than 3 years old.

  3. Proof of parent’s id 
  4. The affidavit which has your address, name, father’s name and community you belong to the state
  5. Address proof
  6. Age proof (birth certificate)

One can apply for a community certificate both online and offline. One can apply online by going to the service centers or the E-Seva centers. One can visit the municipality office for applying further.

Format of Community Certificate

The community certificate is given to the competent authority by the students who belong to the special categories. This caste certificate holds great value as it is proof that the particular person belongs to the special community. 

Minority Community Certificate

The minority community certificate is produced by the people who belong to some special category to their concerned institutions. Students who apply to some scholarships can also produce the SELF-DECLARATION FORM MINORITY COMMUNITY FOR POST MATRIC/MERIT CUM MEANS BASED SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME.

Community Certificate for OBC

There are two types of community certificates for OBCs. Two different OBCs are the OBC Creamy Layer and the OBC Non-creamy layer. Those who come under BC, MBC, children whose parents are in group A jobs, and if the salary income is more than 8 lakhs are not eligible for the OBC Community Certificate.
