The most important part of a company is that of a Company Secretary (CS). A company secretary acts as a seeker of conscience in the company. A well known CS is hired, who helps in handling the legal aspects of the company. A company secretary is responsible for keeping the company’s tax returns, recordings, advisory the board of directors, and so helps to ensure that the company complies with regulations that are legal and statutory.

In India, the only recognized body of professionals to regulate the tasks for company secretaries is the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). Education and training are provided to millions of those who want to be company secretaries by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). For practicing Company Secretaryship professionally, one has to complete three different levels of training and examinations, which are set by the Institute of company secretaries of India (ICSI).

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) encourages candidates to pursue a company secretary by providing training. As we know, the programs are held at three different levels, which after completing, the candidates are given with certificates. 

The programs at three different levels given by the Institute of company secretaries of India are as follows:

  1. Foundation Programme
  2. Executive Programme
  3. Professional Programme

Company Secretary Eligibility

Any candidate who wants to become a certified Company Secretary must fulfill the eligibility criteria which is given below, to pursue the program:

  1. The minimum qualification required for the first level, which is the Foundation Programme, the candidate must do a Company Secretary course in Class XII passing from any stream except fine arts from a recognized university or equivalent.
  2. The candidates who want to pursue company secretary after Graduation has the advantage of undergoing only two levels: 
    • Executive Programme
    • Professional Programme
  3. All Graduates and Post Graduates except students from Fine Arts, and the candidates who have passed in the Foundation examination of The Institution of Company Secretaries of India, or any other institute of charter accountancy in India or abroad after excepted from passing through the exam of Foundation program.

Company Secretary Entrance Exams

Admission to ICSI’s Organization Secretary program is open consistently. The tests are directed bi-yearly in June and December. Hopeful applicants can apply to agree with their decision of test month. The individuals who wish to show up for the Establishment Program assessment in December (same year) must get themselves enlisted by Walk 31, and the individuals who want to show up best one year from now should select themselves by September 30. 

The individuals who wish to join CS from Official Program level must get themselves enlisted by February 28 for showing up in the two modules in December test around the same time; or by August 31 for showing up in the two modules in June test one year from now. 

On the off chance that one needs to show up in a single module in June Assessment in the following year, they should select themselves in Official Program by November 30. A competitor is pronounced to have passed the Establishment/Official/Proficient assessment if he/she verifies at one sitting at least 40% checks in each paper and half stamps in the total all things considered.

What is the salary of CS?

Ans. The average salary of CS is Rs 4 lakh per annum approximately by private corporates. The government offices provide approximately the same salary irrespective of the number of attempts required to pass.
