MHRD stands for the Ministry of Human Resource Development and it plays an important role in the education system of the country. There are two departments under this ministry namely the Department of School Education and Literacy and the Department of Higher Education.

They offer this scholarship to provide financial assistance to school and college students. MHRD offer scholarship on 2 levels, one at the National level and the other at an External level

What is an MHRD scholarship? 

The Ministry of Human Resource Development plays a major role within the education sector of the state. Contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the country, the ministry functions through its 2 distinctive departments specifically, the Department of College Education & acquisition and the Department of upper Education. each department can work for the upliftment of students’ education across the state.

The ministry offers a variety of MHRD scholarships to produce monetary help to each college and school students. MHRD National Level Scholarships

MHRD National Level Scholarships are run by different departments under MHRD but the external level scholarships are offered in collaboration with the government of different foreign countries.

Some of the scholarships given under MHRD are career-specific while others are student or college-specific. For class 12 students, the Central Sector Scholarship is offered based on merit. Around 82,000 students are chosen for the scholarship.

MHRD Scholarship 2020

Every year along with national scholarships & external scholarships students are also offered by MHRD Scholarship and their collaborators. They are offered under Cultural/educational exchange programs. Most of them are granted for Research, masters, and doctoral studies.

MHRD scholarship application process 2020

Students who want to apply for an MHRD scholarship can refer to the following given points. This is the process of filling the online application forms for the MHRD scholarship.

  • Students first visit the official website of the MHRD scholarship.
  • The application would be available every year in the month of June and July.
  • Read the notification link to always get notified.
  • To apply online select the right link.
  • Fill the online MHRD application form online with the correct information.
  • Upload all documents that are necessary to fill the form.
  • A passport size photo along with a signature can be uploaded is mandatory.
  • The application should be verified by the college or institutional board others wise it considered as invalid.

The last date to apply for MHRD Scholarship is mostly on 31st October and this year as well, the date will be the same.

Documents Required For MHRD Scholarship 2020

Here is the list of Documents Required For MHRD Scholarship:

  1. Aadhar Card– In case the applicant does not have his aadhar card, documents like Voter ID Card, Passport, Driving Licence, Pan Card, etc. can also be used, provided the document being used has been issued and recognized by the Central Government.
  2. Marksheet of Class 12th Board Examinations. 
  3. Income Certificate.

MHRD Scholarship Verification Process

Students who will receive this scholarship will be chosen based on a merit list prepared according to the state-based quota, and the application of a student will be cross-verified at two different levels. 

  1. By the officials of the institute where the applicant is currently studying. 
  2. By the respective education board.

The total duration of the scholarship will not be exceeding the term of five years. 50% of total scholarships are reserved for Female Students, and the scholarships will be distributed in a ratio of 3:2:1 to students of Science, Commerce and Humanities streams respectively.

MHRD Scholarship Eligibility

The eligibility of a student for an MHRD scholarship varies from its type. Student’s merit, age, financial conditions are some of the criteria taken into consideration.

Each scholarship mentioned above has a different criterion to select the students. Let us look at some of them

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship is offered to students who are studying in a government recognized engineering or medical college. The students need a minimum of 80% in their 12th standard scoreboard. The Scholarship is offered to students who are not from a good financially stable society.

National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education (NSIGSE)

National Scheme of Incentive is open for the girls from SC/ST communities and enrolled in class 9th. The candidates need to pass the class 8th examination from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and enroll in class 9th in a state government.

Commonwealth Scholarships in the United Kingdom

Students who’ve completed or completing their undergraduate or postgraduate degrees can apply for Commonwealth Scholarship. The minimum percentage is 60 – 65% in science or social science. Students should not get admission through the admission quota. Families annual income is less than Rs. 6 lakh

MHRD Scholarship Renewal

This scholarship can be renewed up to 5 years in the same stream at the graduation level. If a student is unable to appear the annual exam due to illness or other issues can get their scholarship renewed for the next academic year. The renewal form is available on its official website.

  1. Students can renew their scholarship by giving verified proofs for their absence in the annual examination
  2. Students changing their college or university are allowed to renew their scholarship
  3. For professional courses, the scholarship is renewed for graduation level.

MHRD Scholarship Status

For MHRD Scholarship, every year the applications open in the month of June or July. In 2019, the date of the opening was 15th July. The scholarship ratios for the three main subjects are 3:2:1.

  • Rs. 1000/ per month for three years at the undergraduate level.
  • Rs. 2000/ per month for post-graduation.

MHRD Scholarship GATE

The performance of the candidate in GATE is also considered by MHRD for issuing the MHRD scholarship. The GATE score has a weightage of 70% while the rest is given to other previous academic merits.

The following students are allowed to apply with the following conditions:

  1. The MHRD Scholarship can be obtained for 24 months.
  2. The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are different for different institutions.
  3. Only those students achieve a score above the qualifying marks are eligible for the grant. Institutions must ensure this.

MHRD GATE Scholarship Rules

The performance of the candidate in GATE is considered by MHRD. The weightage given to the GATE score is 70% while the remaining 30% is given to the interview and candidate’s previous records. They should consult their related institute for the availability of this scholarship.

  • ATE qualified at the time of admission” are eligible to obtain the MHRD Scholarship for 24 months.
  • The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are different for different institutions.
  • It is the responsibility of the institution to grant scholarships to only those students who’re above the qualifying marks.

MHRD Scholarship For Single Girl Child

Pragati is a scholarship open for single girl children who are admitted to the first year of diploma/degree program at any AICTE recognized institution. However, to apply for this scholarship, the annual income of the family should be less than INR 8 Lakh per annum, after adding all sources.
