All India Management Association (AIMA) conducts a national-level Management Aptitude Test (MAT) for admissions to MBA/PGDM courses in around 600 B-schools across India. It is conducted four times a year, in the months of February, May, September, and December.

The exam was first conducted in 1988 to facilitate admissions to top B-schools. It was later approved as a national-level test by the Government of India in 2003. MAT is an Offline as well as Online based exam, where the students can choose to give the exam in either or both the modes. MAT score is accepted by over 1000 national and international B-schools around the world.

MAT Features

MAT has emerged as one of the most important management exams among the aspirants over the past few years. Since it has universal acceptability, more and more students are appearing for MAT every year, to be accepted to more than 600 B-schools in India. Here are some of the features of MAT-

  1. MAT is considered to be less difficult than other management entrance exams like CAT, XAT, NMAT, GMAT, etc.
  2. The candidates also have the opportunity to prepare well and appear for the exam because it is conducted four times a year which grants them enough time to prepare.
  3. MAT is also conducted both online (Computer-based Test) and Offline (Paper-based Test) and the students have the option to choose.
  4. The score obtained in MAT is also valid for a year.
  5. MAT also allows the candidate to apply to any 5 MBA colleges in India for free.

MAT Eligibility

MAT is an MCQ based entrance exam, that aims to test the Aptitude skills, language skills, analytic and reasoning skills, and mathematical skills. AIMA has laid out the eligibility criteria that need to be fulfilled before applying for the MAT exam:

  1. Candidates must have completed or be in the final of graduation in any discipline to apply for MAT.
  2. Candidates with an equivalent professional degree like CA/CS/ICWA are also eligible.
  3. There is no age limit to appear for the exam.
  4. Students in the final year of graduation can appear for the exam on a provisional basis and present their mark-sheet at the time of MAT counseling.
  5. No restriction on the number of attempts.
  6. No prior work experience is necessary.
  7. There is no minimum percentage required in graduation.

MAT Application Procedure

The applications for MAT are available on the MAT official website. The registration can be done only online. Candidates are required to upload a photograph and signature in the application form along with the required documents.

The candidate is also suggested to make sure that the details filled in the form are correct since AIMA does not allow any further changes in the form after submission. The registration process is quick and easy as follows-

  1. Visit the MAT official website and enter your name, mobile number, date of birth, and E-mail for registration.
  2. Upon registration, fill in your personal and academic details in the MAT application form.
  3. Upload a scanned image of your passport size photograph and signature in the prescribed format.
  4. Pay the MAT application fee by debit card/credit card/net-banking/demand draft and submit the form.
  5. The application fee is INR 1550 (for either mode). If the candidate wishes to appear for both the online and offline mode, they have to pay INR 1550 extra. There is also no concession in the fee for the reserved category.

MAT Documents Required

The documents required for MAT registration are-

  • Valid E-mail ID
  • Scanned image of passport size Photograph (10 to 150 kb)
  • Scanned image of signature (10 to 150 kb)
  • Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking details

The documents required by the candidate at the time of exam are

  • Two copies of MAT admit card
  • ID Proof (Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Passport, etc.)
  • Proof of name change (if any)
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable)

Ans. In MAT Exam you can score upto 600 and about 99% of the candidate score between 200 and 450. 1% of the candidate are able to score above 450, which is considered a good score.
