GMAT EXAM - 2020

GMAT Full Form

GMAT’s full form is Graduate Management Assessment Test. GMAT is a computer-based test conducted by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) that focuses on analytical, quantitative, writing, verbal, and reading skills in English. The test is taken for the graduate program of MBA. The cost of the GMAT exam is US$250 i.e. Rs. 17,715.21. 

What is GMAT?

More than 7,000 programs accept the GMAT 2019 score across 2,000 graduate business universities globally. For those who aspire to pursue an MBA or a Masters degree in Finance, it is the most preferred test. This test is taken all over the world by thousands of students who aspire to MBA from a top university. Every year more than 200,000 students appear for this exam and the score obtained is valid for 5 years. With more than 650 test centers in over 114 countries, it has taken its place among the top exams in the world.

The level of difficulty of each question depends on the accuracy of the previous questions response. You can appear for the exam for a total of 8 times, which is limited to once in a gap of sixteen days and five times within 12 months. The examination last over 3 hours and deals with logical reasoning, Verbal ability, Quantitative reasoning, and writing skills. The exam test the students on every parameter which is required for admission in top colleges.

According to the latest report Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), owner, and administrator of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) have found an alternative to conducting the GMAT exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now GMAT exam will be done online, and the registration has been started from 20th April. This was initiated after the latest crises due to COVID-19 that led to the shutting down of all GMAT test centers located around the world. 

Regarding this GMAT head, Vineet Chabra added that they would maintain the standard of GMAT online, their will be a valid and rigorous assessment, with critical security practices and protocols tailored for an online proctored environment.

GMAT online will eventually help the candidates as they will safe with the application deadline and confidently. While business schools globally will also be helped with their admission process, they will have proper ways to even evaluate candidates. GMAT Online is a temporary thing for the current application cycle candidates. GMAC is thinking of a permanent online GMAT test ahead of 15th June. 

GMAT Online Registrations

The registration for GMAT Online has already started, now you can give the exam by sitting at home. The appointment for GMAT is available from 20th April to 15th June. The test is available globally except Mainland China, Iran, Cuba, Sudan, Slovenia, and North Korea.

All those test centers which will remain open will have enhanced health and safety rules. These will include proper cleaning procedures, hand sanitizer, and wipes to every candidate. GMAC is giving regular updates on the status of its GMAT test centers and GMAT testing in various locations. For candidates with disabilities, GMAC is also working to provide an appropriate online option.

GMAT Online Exam

Due to COVID-19, all the Business school has to extend their application deadline, and the GMAT exam has gone online, that means candidates can continue to apply for business school at this time too. GMAT Online Exam will be offered at a lower rate compared to the current fee charged. In the US and Canada, the cost is $275. There is an increase in the price in North America by 10% earlier. This has happened the first time in 15 years.  

You can give an Online GMAT exam on both Mac and PC. Your computer should have GMAC's system requirements. This GMAT online has followed the same structure as the offline one. The same scoring and score scale for the Section Scores and Total Score is used. For the online exam, you will be monitored by a human proctor through a live video to ensure you don't cheat. For the test, your computer should have a reliable internet connection and a webcam. The test will be hosted on mba.com, where you also register for the test.

GMAT Online Exam Pattern

There are some changes in the GMAT Online Exam Pattern, in the online version there will be only four sections - Quantitative, Verbal, Integrated Reasoning, and Analytical Writing Assessment. The writing section has been eliminated from the exam pattern. One more thing that is added in the GMAT Online exam is that you cannot make physical notes using pen and paper. Instead of that, you need to use an online whiteboard provided onscreen when solving the quant questions.

GMAT Eligibility 2020

Eligibility for GMAT Exam is 18 years of age. If you are between the ages of 13 to 17, you will require legal written permission from their parents or guardian. No specific qualification or an upper age limit has been made compulsory to appear for GMAT. 

A student can maximum appear for the exam for 5 years and there should be a gap of 16 days between appearing for a consecutive exam. The eligibility must be taken seriously otherwise failing which candidate will not be allowed to sit for the exam or the score will be invalid, which will be just a waste of money and time.

GMAT Score 2020

GMAT score is a combination of verbal and quantitative scores ranging from 0 to 60. GMAT total score starts ranging from 200 to 800. GMAT Score validity is till 5 years. 

The average GMAT Score is 556 till now. A good GMAT Score is 650 though all the top Business Schools expect 750 for the score.

GMAT Scoring is based completely on its sections and the division of each is given below:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment

The essay is scored twice, by the computer and human reader.

The score range is 0.0 to 6.0.

The scores are averaged at intervals of 0.5.

If the two scores differ by 1 point, a third examiner finalizes the score.

More than 50 linguistic features are analyzed while being scored.

  • Integrated Reasoning

The score range is 1 to 8.

Each score interval is a single digit.

More than one response is required for each question.

There is no partial scoring.

All responses must be attempted for the full score.

  • Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning

The score range is between 6 to 51.

Marking depends on the number of questions attempted.

The difficulty of each question makes a difference in the score; therefore a higher number of correct answers increase the scores.

An error of measurement will cost 3 points.

Each score is marked at an interval of 1 point.

GMAT Syllabus

GMAT syllabus comprises four sections – Analytical assessment, Integrated, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning. The student should always be aware of any change in the GMAT exam pattern.

  • Analytical Assessment

 It tests your writing skills, your ability to put up arguments with clarity and logic, the essay will be analyzed overall and it analyzes your argument with a methodical approach.

  • Integrated Reasoning

The table analysis will have statements that need to be categorized as true or false, the graph representation needs to interpret by choosing from the given options, multi-source reasoning involves choosing options from a table and graph, in the two-part analysis, an individual answer has to be chosen from the given component from 2 columns.

  • Quantitative Reasoning

  • Verbal Reasoning

3. If you are preparing for GMAT while working, the time required to prepare for GMAT increases twofold. Maintaining a balance between work and preparation is important as is suggestive that you can use online courses to take care of that.

4. Plan a score for yourself, that becomes your target. Make sure to analyse your own skills before choosing the target score.

5. Update yourself with the syllabus of GMAT for the year 2020 and plan your preparation accordingly. 

6. Practice last year question papers and prepare yourself for a computer-based exam and make sure your speed is good.

7. GMAT prep is not a piece of cake, focus on keeping consistency in your preparation.

GMAT Exam Dates 2020

GMAT Exam Dates should be selected crucially to make sure that you as a test taker are physically and mentally ready. GMAT test dates are available all year round and there is no exact date list for GMAT. So, it becomes important for you to check the official GMAT Website and register yourself for the next exams.

You must register two to three months before your interested date.

GMAT Exam Pattern

GMAT test pattern includes four sections of Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning. Each section has a different duration assigned to it and a different number of questions that add up to 90 questions.

GMAT Exam Fees

GMAT Exam Fees is US$250 which is around Rs. 17, 715 GMAT Fees in India. If you wish to reschedule the Exam, you will be charged $50 extra. 

GMAT Rescheduling Fees

If you reschedule your exam more than 7 days before the original date, you will be charged with $50 but if you do it under 7  days, you must pay $250 

GMAT Cancellation Fees

If you wish to cancel your exam, you will be refunded $80 if cancelled more than 7 days before the original date. In case of cancellation within 7 days, there will be no refund.

How to access the GMAT Score?

  • You will receive 4 out of 5 of your scores immediately after the test.
  • An unofficial score print out can be taken at the test center.
  • The score can be accessed online anytime.
  • The scores come with an online guide.

Both GMAT and CAT are required for Masters in Business Administration, but as an Indian Student, you need to know the difference between GMAT and CAT and which one is better for you while planning for business schools.

FAQs

1. What is the GMAT syllabus?

 The GMAT Syllabus comprises four sections to be attempted – Analytical Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning.

2. Can I skip any GMAT section?

You cannot skip any of the sections.

3. Do I get a break between the sections?

You can take an 8 – minutes break scheduled according to the order of your sections. If not, you can skip and move on to the next section.

4. What skills does the Quantitative section analyze?

The Quantitative section measures your reasoning and evaluation abilities.

5. Does the verbal section only analyze my grammatical skills?

The Verbal test measures your comprehensive and understanding skills of the language.

6. Are all GMAT questions scored?

 Not all, but around 25% of the questions are experimental in the Quantitative and verbal section.

7. Can I cancel my GMAT score?

Yes, you can cancel your GMAT score that will require a charge of $10.

8. Who can access my scores?

Only the registered candidate can have access to their GMAT scores.

9. Which section can I  request for a restore?

The Analytical Writing Assessment can be re-scored with the request.

10. How much does the GMAT test cost?

GMAT costs $250 for a test.
